Sarah Rose is definitely the best professor in the Linguistics Department. Her classes are funny, informative and always interesting. Her Wonder of Words is why I decided to do Linguistics as my major. The guest speakers in the Intro course were really fun. I recommend any course that she teaches.

Comment:

She's nice to the point of condescending and fake. I really looked forward to this course and was ultimately let down. Her grading is erratic and she singles people out which makes for an awkward class. However, she is accessible and will help you if you ask. She knows her stuff but needs to focus lectures on what she will be testing.

Very nice prof, but her grading scheme is very erratic. Each midterm had a different format than the last, with no prior explanation. Very hard marker.

Good class, very nice lady. Willing to help, as long as you ask her for it. If you don't like studying do not take this class, but as long as you at least read the textbook chapters after class you should be fine. Wouldn't mind taking another class from her some time in the future.

Nice Woman, Terrible marker. No one went in or came out with an A. She doesn't believe in giving A's, she said at one point. She needs to stick to linguistics, not english. She either is or acts like she's over qualified and for people doing this course as a prereq for a BBA degree, it just wasn't good. at all.

I loved this course with this professor!! The other people who did this class in the same semester as me obviously did not go to class, because Sarah Rose was crystal clear on what she wanted for tests, wanted the class to do well, and always had interesting classes with cool guest speakers!! Highly Recommend!!

She's definitely a bit strange but she's a nice lady. Unfortunately, I found her exams and marking to be tough especially for a course that is cross-listed with first level. I found her study chapter summaries to be misleading for studying the exams although she would tell us to follow them. She's definitely far from the worst but she's mediocre.

Very unclear. What was told for final was very misleading. She used irrelevant class topics to make up whole final exam and screwing everyone over. HORRIBLE. - She is a nice lady, and can be quite funny because she is just so whacky, but she really did screw everyone over in the end. Went into final with 84 and came out with 72.

Dr. Rose is a decent prof in terms of clarity and helpfulness. However, she is a very hard marker and she's kind of an annoying person, to be honest. She comes off as a snob - everyone complained about her while waiting to write our final, & NO ONE went in with an A. Also she gives a million assignments worth like 2% each, which is a huge pain.

Amazing prof. I've grown to hate English over the years, but she actually makes it interesting. Class always felt engaging, even when doing typically boring stuff like grammar. Textbooks are "required", but really you can do fine without them with a little effort. Highly recommended, though be prepared to actually do work throughout the year.

I only took this course because I registered late & couldnt get into the ones I wanted. I'm glad I did. It's probably my favourite course that I'm doing right now! Prof Rose is very knowledgable and she's very interested in her students opinions. Very nice woman, definitely reccommend.

Best course I've done so far... love her she is awesome! She is extremely nice and helpful, even helped me with another course I was taking. Highly recommend her to anyone who is interested in a good course that isn't hard- especially if you are even remotely interested in linguistics
