I recommend reading the Gaddis textbook over his eBook. For assignments, make sure to follow his methods shown in the design examples. His lectures will be helpful in learning how he likes to see your work displayed, but don't rely on it for learning the entire subject. It would be a good idea to self-study and keep up with the material.

All of the comments so far are accurate, despite contradictions. Your experience is highly dependent on whether or not you're on his good or bad side. Get on his good side, he's fantastic and more flexible. Get on his bad side and you'll be one of the many typing up negative reviews. Follow his format, don't oneup him,be a yes-man, and you're safe.

This professor knows everything about the C++; however, he needs to at least explain what should we use for programming and everything. I feel like I figured out most of homework and tests, but this class is really easy to get an A if you do work. just do not do stupid things in that class.

"Congratulations. You have earned an A grade in CS1." By far the best professor I've taken. He does care about students- would step outside if the classroom with the student to explain what he/she needs to do to bring his/her grade up. He is tough, but tough teacher forges the best brains. Read the book for the best grade out of quizzes.

If you took both his cs1 and cs2, you will be fine if you work hard. However, if u do ambr and russell's cs2 after u finish his cs1, u will be so lost. good luck

Professor Singhal knows everything about C++. His lectures are dry, but his assignments and tests are made very clear. Even though he has his own book, I suggest reading the Gaddis book. Read the first few chapters the sem, so you arnt confused when he starts coding the first day. He is helpful if he respects you, so do all hw and dont be stupid

Definitely not worth taking. Gives hw assignments on subjects he doesn't cover, he is super unorganized, he can be really rude, and his grading method is just ridiculous. He gives a semester long project that you won't even know the grade to until "The following semester", according to him, which makes NO SENSE. Do not take him

I took him for engineering 1. Worst decision I have made. I should have dropped in the beginning. He is usually late, reads from the book or a powerpoint, makes you attend the full two hours and forgets to bring things to class sometimes. On top of it, he gives you a semester project that is ridiculously long. Wouldn't recommend taking him.

Professor Singhal's lectures are much more boring compared to the other CS2 professor (Russell), but his class is miles easier. You get an code outline for every program, that tells you what functions will be needed, what classes, variables, etc. With Russell you spend days just trying to figure it out. He is not the most friendly of professors

He's got a bit of an accent that takes a while to get used to, but he's a good prof overall. I learned a lot in his class. If you're serious about CS you should take him, but beware he will teach you more than you need to know for CS2. His tests are kinda hard, but they're basically variations of your programming assignments so study those.

Took for Engineering 1. What a bore. He would speak directly from a Powerpoint. He doesn't explain how he grades and you find that out on the first assignment. Expects a lot from a 2 unit course. Quizzes and exams were sometimes straight forward and usually common sense questions. Would always talk about his achievements. Would not take again.

An alright teacher who doesn't necessarily teach too much, as reading from the book / watching videos is where you will do most of your learning. Seems to always be angry and only points you in the right direction when you need help. Also has double standards for girls, because he wants more women in the industry, so if you're a guy expect to work.

If you thought you had the worst teacher in your life (no exaggeration), wait till you meet him after the initial drop period. Extremely vague, no help, doesn't accept advice, rude, acts like a dictator. He doesn't teach, but only shows. Doesn't explain unless you ask specific question. Lecture is just literally watching him type for 2 hours.

I've took CS1 && CS2 with Dr. Singhal in consecutive semesters. He can be tough at first, but once you show him that you are a hard worker, show interest on computer science, and ask him for help, he will help you and take care of you for entire semester. He is one of those professors that are very close with students and keep contact. Take him!

Comment:
Student who says Prof. Singhal wished him/her failure is cynical & their comment is pure character assassination. Singhal did most to advance student success. Look at the contradictions in statements of this student. If singhal wished them failure, how come they got an A? He is also insulting other students by saying that class was 9 grade level.

I was in same CIS13 class about which this other student wrote. This student is totally wrong about Singhal. Which part time professor is willing to meet students on their day off to teach them one on one? Which part time professor creates a whole web site for a class to help students? Ignore angry ranting of some immature student. Singhal is best.

Extremely rude, basically wished I would fail the class because I pointed out his mistakes and errors in teacher technology that he clearly is learning himself. The course on the other hand is easy. This is the same class you took in 9th grade. He told me to shut up, that I was a horrible student and yet I got the highest grade in the class.

Hard, unclear, unhelpful, yells, feels forced to think the same way he thinks. Gets mad if you don't use the same code as him on some functions. He is the worst teacher EVER!!
