Comment:

Classes can be a bit boring since he talks for the full 80 mins. Grade consists of HW, 3 exams, and 4 computer problems. I didn't find the class to be hard so just make sure you pay attention during class. He doesn't check attendance

Comment:

Seemed like a nice guy but regularly assigns computer problems and online connect assignments on the same days as Tests. Let's you use cheat sheets but it only helps so much when you don't have the formula for a 10-20pt question on it. He acts like the class is geared towards kids who've taken stats, if you haven't it will be significantly harder.

Professor Callan really is a great teacher, if you've taken statistics before. He allows for "cheat sheets," one piece of printer paper one-sided per exam (there's three exams total), and if you pay attention/take notes or can teach yourself well, you'll get an easy A. Homework assignments are doable and tests are reasonable. Partial credit given.

Great class. Prof Callan is a good guy, and a great professor. Unfortunately, 75% of the grade is split between your final paper and your midterm. Other than that, I learned a lot.

Great Professor. Allowed a note sheet for all 3 exams. Really invested in students learning the material. Classes are extremely helpful. Non cumulative exams only on material discussed in class. Would recommend to anyone.

Easy class if you have taken stats before. He teaches stats in the most difficult manner possible, mostly because he doesn't teach with a calculator. Overall, a good teacher. Listen in class and take notes, it should be an easy 3.7.

I've taken a couple classes with Callan. Great guy, good sense of humor, willing to help students as much as possible; always a good reference to have for jobs. Usually has a midterm and a project with several homework assignments in between (none of which are particularly difficult). If you pay attention during class, you'll do well.

Class can be boring at times, but there are no tricks. Prof. Callan tells you what you need to know for the three exams (including the final) and lets you bring a notes sheet with anything on it. Very helpful and good with answering questions, especially during office hours. If you do the reading, do the homework, and go to class, you'll get an A.

It's statistics, it's boring and Prof. Callan knows it. 3 Non-cumulative tests, a handful of homeworks. Really not a lot of work, and if you understand stats then this class is very easy. You don't have to go to class, but I suggest it because he gives you examples of what you'll see on the test, much easier to learn in class then from the book.

I do not recommend this professor at all. I ended up withdrawing from the course to avoid recieving a poor grade. He is not helpful at all. His expectation on the knowledge level of the students is unrealistic (he's teaching a class to MBA students w/out a business background), and he is not a fair grader.

He just expected everyone to know the material coming into the course, regardless of your major. The class is an elective so non-eco fi majors were doomed. He showed poor judgment in grading. I spent 9 hours writing the first paper, which was high quality and received an 85. The next paper I spent 2 hours on and received an 85. What a joke

I still don't know what to think of Callan. Part of me thinks he loves to see students suffer and part of me thinks he wants them to learn as much as possible. EC381 is one of the hardest classes you'll take, the work is overwhelming and grading is tough, but at the end of the day I got something out of the class. Btw, has a strange sense of humor.

I'm not sure what the other reviews are talking about. Prof Callan is a really good guy and a great teacher. I learned a lot in his class. Very few assignments and he helps you out with them. Tests aren't too bad, he let us have a formula sheet. If you pay attention and take some notes chances are you'll be ok.

Callan is somewhere between a lost puppy dog and a dictator in the class room. He really has no idea whats going on. Talk some hockey, head to his office hours and you'll be fine. Oh yeah and you might want to study a little. Dont hurt yourself overworking for this guy he lives and dies with the Bruins and right now he must be hurting

He is a really nice guy but that only goes so far. He expects you to do the assigned reading and do the assignment problems although it is not required. I'm getting a 4.0 in the class but that is because I taught myself. Class time is sorta useful but I skip most of the time. Easy grader. Take him if your a self learner.

Class is hard but Prof is a fair grader. He gives Blackboard handouts for all material and these are good to study from for tests.
