The class layout is quite clear, the most difficult part is just motivating yourself to do the work. If you do put time in, you'll get a decent grade- though it often seems that he doesn't really care what you write, as long as it's a decent length. Material he posts online is often years old. No feedback is ever given.

Professor Carson is a nice guy but if you are taking him to get a requirement out of the way, don't. He lectures with the assumption that everyone is a Philosophy major and it is hard to keep up.

I took his online course. It was challenging. Weekly online discussions and quizzes that were mandatory. I only got a C+ and felt I did a lot of work and studying. Maybe his in class course would be easier. I still enjoyed the subject. He is a very nice teacher and will answer any questions you have. book mandatory!

A nice guy, I will give him that. Outside of the class I'm sure I would've liked him. In the class though, not so much. Philosophy is a hard class already and though he was good at explaining ideas in class I didn't see those ideas reflected in his power points. Tests were hard - you really need to study, and the book didn't help me.

T-Bone is a sick professor. His soccer skills are sweet, and he is very clear in class. Don't just rely on the powerpoints and do the readings. He's good at giving debriefs on the readings, but don't just rely on those. Very down to earth and helpful outside of class!

This was my first philosophy course, and it was very interesting. Carson is a very funny guy (as happens with most of the philosophy professors). Hard tests, but if you do the reading, you'll be fine, even if you don't think so. I had a rough time winter quarter, and he was very fair in helping me out when I got behind. Great guy.

Extremely bright but not all that impressive as an instructor; very "middle-of-the-road" professor. Take him if you must but don't seek him out. If you do take him, see him outside of class because he's much, much better in the capacity.

Great guy, great class. Very funny, not too hard, but there is a ton of reading. Tests seem impossible, but everyone seems to do pretty well. Take a class with Carson if you have the chance.

I am not interesting in philosophy at all, and i enjoyed this class. Carson is very nice, and approachable. he has weekly quizzes which are a pain, but when it comes time to take the midterm and the final you will be glad you had them, because it cuts your studying time in half! if you go to class and put in effort you will do fine!

he had no interest in teaching this class which left us with no interest in taking it. The class discussion rarely if ever, had anything to do with the text. SUCKFEST.

if you're a serious student then you'll do fine. the work is hard but he does a good job of explaining it and he connects it to both the history of philosophy and modern day intellectual trends--very interesting and informative. lots of reading, but worth doing just for your own benefit in my opinion. makes some pretty bad puns.

Great class, great teacher. He's so nice and very funny, and he gives lots of help outside of class. The readings are hard but you learn a lot from them, and he explains them in class with powerpoints. Two midterms a paper and a final. I really felt that I learned a lot in this class.

I had to take this for my education major, and I was not looking forward to it, but it wound up being one of the best classes i've had. The readings were really hard, but he explained them really well. I learned a lot about stuff I never thought I would care about. He's a funny guy, makes lots of jokes, which helps with this material.

This is one of the hardest classes I've ever had, but I sure learned a lot. The guy is very nice, very funny, but talks kinda fast. He was always available after class and in office hours whenever I needed help, which was a lot. I got an OK grade, but be prepared to work very hard.

He's a nice guy, but the class is simply difficult. Very accomodating with helping students after class. His lectures are usually power points with the info. Goes a little fast when lecturing and the tests are VERY hard.

Carson is by far my least favorite teacher ive had down at OU. Uses "****" about 3 times a class just for laughs. He lied to our class directly about the content of the midterm, and there are quizes every week that are fairly hard. He doesnt return emails, and left out of town, the day of the final, so no students could even talk to him.

He's a really good guy and i would reccomend taking him for a class but if you are taking 101 find someone else. theres no textbook just lots of small paperbacks that are impossible to read. Lots and lots of notes, it's passable but try to get another 101 teacher

He's a nice guy, throws ***k in the lectures a lot. For the most part this class is soooo hard to go to, it's sooo boring! And it's not an "easy A".
