I was so afraid of her at first because she seemed strict. Come to find out she's very sweet. She makes an effort to get to know her students and is astonishingly knowledgeable in language and culture. I disliked her focusing so much on Haiti though, but the Caribbean culture is her specialization, so...

She's an amazing professor and person! She is also my advisor and has helped me a lot. If you need to take a French class, take it with her! She's a sweetheart and is well-traveled in the French-speaking world. She really cares about the language and culture.

Helm is one of my favorite French teachers at OU. She's passionate about French and helping her students. I'd definitely recommend taking her! She's nice and is willing to help outside of class whenever necessary. I learned a ton in this class!

I'm a French minor and have studied with many profs and she is by far my least favorite. Grades in a very strange way which can cripple your grade. Almost the whole class revolved around a very mediocre 6 page short story written by an author she is obsessed with because she met her personally. If you can find another prof, do it. I suggest Rodina

Great professor. Class was enjoyable most of the time. Gave many opportunities to see her outside of class and that helped a lot.

Kind of a difficult teacher, studying outside of class is very effective, tests are not too bad. Not the most helpful, but if you follow her directions really strictly you get an a. Somewhat strict though, she has scared or upset people. Good explanation of grammar but not the most original in class exercises.

This was the first time she had ever taught a 212 class and she didn't know what to expect from us. Tests were very difficult and I almost failed all of them. Overall, she's a really good teacher and wants her students to do well and to become interested in the French language.

Nice prof, boring class. She just asks for a plot summary from the class everyday and never really promotes higher discussion. The last book was good, but the other two were kinda bad. Tests were easy, but it's hard to get a good participation grade if you don't like recounting everything that you just read. Take this class with Duvert instead.
