Comment:
Chem isn't too easy, but Van Bramer is not helpful at all. He will stare at you when you ask questions, as if mental telepathy will send the answer to your brain. His tests are impossible, even after 15 hours/week studying. He can overall just be rude and will have people call you on speaker to talk to him if you're running late to class.

Comment:
The material in itself is not difficult to grasp, however Van Bramer makes the material difficult to understand through his in-class problems and test questions. Good luck come the exams, because this professor likes to pose near impossible problems. To give perspective, our class size was 26 on the first day. On the last day, there were 12 left.

Honestly, he's a hard grader and the work can be tough. but its worth it when you get to know him and go to him for help. He wants you to be able to figure things out on your own, and if you aren't to busy complaining about him not giving a direct answer, you'll learn alot from him. Awesome professor!

Had him for Lecture and lab... Assigns truckloads of work and expects 6 hours of study a week to go along with it... Lab was the most work I've ever had for a class and 1 credit. Guy would say "What do you think?" when asked questions and smile wryly instead of helping. Do not recommend

I found Chem 145 (lecture) to be incredibly easy and even somewhat enjoyable. Van Bramer would teach with clarity and humor, carefully driving home the points that would be tested on the exam. Chemistry 147, however, made me want to shoot myself/pluck my eyeballs out of my head. He turned into an ogre! Expect low grades: 80-100 = A; 70-80 = B; etc.

He gives hours of trivia homework that does not help you prepare for any exam. On exams, all questions have to do with exceptions to rules that he conveniently does not teach you and the book does not tell you. If you have to take his class?say your prayers.

Teaches the class like hes teaching 7th grade like your immature, just annoying. Tests had unnecessary questions for the info needed for the class. Class pace was way to slow didn't cover much material

Amazing professor. The best I've ever had. The reason he doesn't give straight answers to questions is because you get more out of it if you're guided to the answer.

Ive had him for chem 365/368/465/467 lemme tell you this. You will not have a teacher who will assign more busy work. Everyday in instrumental/adv spec was another endless assignment. Labs are insane, must come up with your procedure from scratch. Grades hard, Youll learn a decent amount. Much better than FD as a teacher, but you will work 10x more

Really hard if your not prepared. He WILL NOT answer any of your questions even if your on the "right track" because he just says to you "Well, what do you think?" Avoid him for lab

Will not answer any questions. Leaves you with too much to think about. His exams during the semester were about 12-14 pages and I barely finished within the exam period. The final is twice as long/less time so do well on the other exams

He's one of the few teachers who teaches you how to do the work, not just sit up in front of the class and go off about how great they are. He can be a d--k at times but its usually when students are being lazy or immature. If you put in the effort in, he notices and rewards you with a better grade. ps-- chem is hard as hell no matter who u have.
