Comment:

After experiencing almost each and every professor in the dept, I must say that this professor was the absolute worst. I didn't learn anything about networking and I really wanted to. All I learned was how to memorize slides. "what was the name of the organization that determines networking standards?" That was on a test.

Im is a horrible professor. He has a heavy accent which makes lectures difficult, and he quickly skims over his powerpoints, often barely mentioning things he will quiz you on. His quizzes don't measure comprehension, but on how well you can regurgitate definitions. The labs have terrible/incomplete instructions. Be prepared to teach yourself.

He is a nice professor that is not too difficult to understand. He is accent makes you have to ACTIVELY listen to retain information. The labs are easy, the quizzes are okay. VERY boring to listen to. Especially sometimes for 2 hours on end.

Doesn't speak clearly or loudly; when he isn't repeating himself he's glossing over things that will be on tests. His tests are ridiculously hard and don't test on comprehension as much as they do on being able to memorize every name and vomit it back out.

Im is a horrible teacher. The class average for every test is at most a 60%. He gives credit for keywords, even if your answer is completely wrong. He has to curve the class or everyone would fail.

Im knows his stuff, but cannot communicate to the class at all. Not a single person I've talked to even understands a word he says. His tests are hard and he is a hard grader. Avoid if at all possible.

Waste of 3 units. Anything he teachs should be avoided. Taken two classes from him each one is the same. See slides. Watch him scribble on white board.rinse repeate.Does little for reviews,which make tests hard. More then half the class fails tests.Take MINS classes if able. This was not his area of expertise. That said, Dr. Im is not as bad as some of these reviews would indicate. For networking you can learn a lot from listening to him and asking good questions. To do well you must: sit near the front of class, take notes, AND read the material. His english is VERY good. He just speaks softly.

I had four classes with Professor Im. If you expect to work at learning, you will do well in his classes. He presents his material in modules and works through the modules in lecture. I am an American student and consider Professor Im to be my mentor. He always makes himself available during office hours, and even after office hours, for help.

Well when 70% of the class gets less that 70% on the mid term it speaks for itself. Material on tests not defined so you can ferret it out from the mass of material presented and the lectures are boring. Im is a smart guy but teaches everything as though it were a graduate class.

Avoid this guy if you really want to learn something. He is a big waste of time. I regret why I took this class with him. Didn't learn a word from his lectures. Tests are hard and he is a hard grader as well. There are 2 projects which you do with your own knowledge without any help from him. Last thing stay away if you can.

This class was a joke. I don't think Im had taught it before. Lectures were very confusing, unclear and boring. He flew threw pre-typed slides and notes w/o checking to see if we were learning anything. Tests and assignments were were way too difficult. Hard grader.

Very smart, has excellent online notes. Trying to go to one of his lectures is frustrating. His english isn't great and often hard to understand, and his pictures/diagrams/notes that he writes on the board boogle the mind. I also suspect that he understands english about as well as he speaks it.

Dr. Im is a great professor. His subject matter competency is outstanding. He is rock steady and is a man of high integrity. He is compassionate yet demanding. You must know the material at test time. Although I am not asian, I view him as an important mentor. For computer communications:he rocks!
