Comment:
Class is one of the more difficult ones as far as FS paper grading goes but knows a lot and cultivates a great community in her FS class. Conveys material clearly, and has interesting assignments and discussions, but can sometimes give kinda vague assignment criteria then mark a lot of people down for doing it differently than one specific way.

BEST PROFESSOR AT ALLEGHENY! You owe it to yourself to take a class with her. She makes you work hard, esp if she can tell that you're smart and usually get away with slacking. All of her classes are amazing! She's so knowledgable, esp about Mexico and Latin America.

Professor Mattiace is one of the most brilliant professors on campus. Her classes are no joke and attendance is paramount to gaining her favor. Definitely visit her in office hours if you're having trouble in class- she's extremely transparent about grading and wants everyone to do better, she also can help relate the class to your interests.

My favorite professor at Allegheny. She is brilliant! Her lectures are clear and she facilitates class discussion well. She has high expectations of her students so she's tough on you. But you can learn so much if you *read* and engage fully. I would highly recommend going to office hours because she's so interesting to talk to.

Amazing professor. A very hard grader, but extremely transparent in how she grades. She will do anything to help you out, as long as you ask for it. I began this semester with a D and she pushed me until I got it up to an A. However, I don't suggest taking her if you have no interest or knowledge in the subject unless you're really willing to work.

Comment:
Prof. Mattiace is very experienced and knowledgeable in her field. However, her lectures are boring and make class drag on and seem very long. She is extremely nice, funny, and helpful in and outside of class. The readings for class are interesting. She grades relatively hard on her tests and journals (the main grades in the class).

She is a relatively hard grader, it seems like she doesn't want to give out A's. She is unclear in her lectures at times, and was completely obsessed about Mexico to the point of nausea. Her tests are hard and her questions are unclear and irrelevant. I considered becoming a political science major, but after her class I am turned off.

Prof. Mattiace is so nice and a wonderful teacher. She is smart, enthusiastic and is willing to bend over backwards for her students. She doesnt assign much work except for a series of short papers on newspaper articles. You can get away with not reading for class, but not so for the exams.
