Dr. Kubasak is a wonderful woman. Her advice and insight with writing is incredibly helpful. She makes you think, and she challenges you to become a better writer. My writing has significantly improved since taking her class, from the way I approach ideas to revising my work. Definitely one of my favorite professors at BW.

She is very talkative and is willing to explain things to you if you ask, but it must be her way. If you do not participate in class she will not like you. Homework nightly and feel as though I haven't learned anything

if you don't write the way she likes to read, she won't like you or your work. ever. I truly believe she means well, but she really puts a sour taste in my love for writing and poetry.

She is absolutely incredible. In this class, there were two papers, both of which she set aside class time for one-on-one conferences. They were quick, but they were helpful. I also appreciated the comments she made on my papers, which were both helpful and encouraging. I look forward to taking CW courses and discussing my work with her!

I walked into this class excited and ready to learn, as I love poetry of all types. Spends the most time in my opinion criticizing students. Never answered a single one of my emails, and was very rude when approached for help.

Dr. Kubasak is a creative, highly intelligent woman. She demands a great amount of insight and passion from students. She is not an easy grader, she is not tolerant of BS. If you are prepared for a challenge, truly wishing to grow as both a writer and a reader, to understand literature in an atypical dimension, take her!

Awful teacher. I love writing more than anything and have been looking forward to CW major since highschool, and then I got Her. She sees things One Limited Way and if you don't see it her way, you don't see it. Ruined my major and is CW teacher for all courses. If your CW Major, don't go to school for it here. She's that single minded So upsetting

Mixed feelings about her. Analyzied poetry ALOT. Sometimes she had close minded views. If your taking this course for the fine arts credit and you are not really interested in poetry, DONT, because you really need to be into the material.

She is very contemporary poetry... TOO contemporary. Everything has to be abstractions and huge meanings... even if the poem is about a coat!

Throughout the poetry wkshp it seems like it is her goal to make you feel as stupid as possible, unless you happen to be one of her favorites. She was not helpful at all and did not allow any creativity unless it was exactly how she does it. I've never hated a class more. She spends the whole time braggging about her work, and putting yours down

In a writing class, she told a student who had a story about an imaginary friend that she was making fun of children who had few friends. Kubasak didn't understand it was about an imaginary friend! What an idiot!

I have taken Intro to Poetry, American Lit, Poetry Writing Workshop, & Creative NonFiction w/Dr Kubasak and have learned so much more than I can possibly express. She urged me to major in English & submitted my poetry for publication. She is my favorite professor & is a wonderful person to know and learn from. Encouraging & genuine!

Okay, well, Dr. Kubasak is one of the most unclear professors I know. I learned hardly anything in her poetry class. She doesn't seem very open to interpretation, which I think poetry is all about! Oh well, live and learn. I wouldn't recommend taking Intro to Poetry with her. Go with Dr. Boe instead!!

At first, I didn't like her that much. I'm not a fan of her group discussions because she expects you to make some profound observation. If however, you are a good writer and have the ability to imitate, in your own style, the writers or genres covered in class, you'll recieve a great deal of praise and encouragment from her.

I enjoy the literature that we're reading in the class, but it's very hard to be prompted to write in the same style as the author after we finish a book. I agree with the other comments about how if you make one wrong comment, you're in trouble. I feel like she never thinks my comments are good enough so she has to interrupt and add her own.

Very nice at first, but if you say one thing she disagrees with then you're screwed for pretty much the rest of the class. Her opinion seems to be the only thing that matters. Assignments are too vague, too. Not the best.
