Comment:
Attendance is mandatory because there are 3 "pop" quizzes. You will get full credit as long as you are present and turn anything in. Class is mainly discussions. The tests are based the readings assigned on Canvas. Know the readings in order to get a good grade on the midterm. The G.E.'s will grade everything except for the final project.

Shaul is a nice teacher but the class was set up weirdly. Attendance wasn't mandatory but he did have 3 pop quizzes and you got full credit if you showed up and took them. Final was a take home midterm paper that doesn't really require lecture material, just readings. Final project was a fun project of your choosing though!

He acts like he's the smartest human on the planet. He's not great but he's not horrible. Class is easy , but there really wasn't a central theme of the class. There are readings but they're pretty worthless. Pop quizzes and he makes you do a weekly log on NY times articles. A couple of essays as well

Overall, his class was honestly a waste of time and money. His class barely had any direction or cohesiveness; it was all over the place. He would often talk about his personal political beliefs. He would talk very quietly too. Not a hard class per se, but also not a meaningful one. Even now, I still don't know what the class's purpose actually was

Shaul is a laid back and very intelligent professor. He knows a lot and about the world and seems like an interesting person to get to know. He grades reasonably and pretty fairly. He does expect a lot out of his students, but I believe that people can adjust to do so.

Shaul is super funny, but I felt numb in his class most days. The lectures are very weird and there isn't much note taking, which is a bit frustrating when studying for the midterm. He does give out pop quizzes so make sure to show up for class. He uploads the textbook chapters onto canvas. Also, he does not have a super loud voice.

The best professor I've had in college. He has made such an impact on my life over the past four years. I've never met a professor with more expectations or more devotion to his students. Not only has he been a mentor but 3 of my favorite classes in college were with him. Too down to earth for the Ivy league he belongs at.

A lot of the class was looking at pictures while he talked about them. The class was interesting and got me interested in human geography, which he said was the point.

Really enjoyed taking this class. I definetley recommend reading the chapters assigned before coming to class because he jumps right into things. Although you can probably pass the class without reading at all because he mentions "key terms" every lecture in his slides and as long as you know those and can describe them you should do pretty well.

I spend time with Professor Cohen multiple times each week and have done so for a while. Very strait forward, VERY opinionated. I have never even imagined reading books as awful as the ones he makes you read. having said that...he will expand your mind if you TAKE GOOD NOTES

Great professor and very smart man. comes off super intimidating at times but he is really a very understanding professor. He does not like to waste time or have you waste it. Don't be late, don't sleep, and don't text. AND DON'T USE LIKE INAPPROPRIATELY. Take his class and remember to keep an open mind.

Sure, he is opinionated. He's also makes concessions to others and is fair in his evaluations. Sure he's a lefty. But he knows his stuff. This guy is brilliant, is genuinely interested in expanding your mind, and has a great sense of humor too. He'll make you feel guilty about destroying the environment with your lifestyle, but maybe you should.

He is a really great teacher who has a lot of interesting ideas. His view on the middle east is very insightful and made me want to visit one day. Although there are only 3 novels to read one is 600 pages long and a bore. I would totally recommend him as a teacher and to take his FIG camels and cowboys

I've heard mixed feelings towards Dr. Cohen. I feel like you either love him or you really dislike him. I happened to LOVE his course. He's extremely intelligent, passionate and knowledgeable in his area of studies. I would and have highly recommended to take a course from Dr. Cohen. Like someone else said, he belongs at an ivy leauge

Great professor, incredibly interesting, intelligent, and great lecturer. I'd say he is biased, but come on- you're taking and Population and Environment class at the University of Oregon- what do you really expect!?! He's honest and frank about the issues facing our world, but readily acknowledges how difficult it is for people to change.

It's an interesting class but exactly what you are studying is very vague. I'm still not entirely sure what we were supposed to get out of that class.
