Very nice lady. Good spirit. Can tell she enjoys her job. Learned every students' name. Always an enjoyable class. Explains content very well. Complaint: She got a little touchy about religion with her choice of article we examined, to the point where students felt uncomfortable. There's also regular collaborative work with fellow classmates.

She has been teaching for way too long obviously, I can't stand being in this class because she is only looking for 1 answer, even though it's philosophy and there are many opinions to consider. I'm pretty easy going when it comes to professors, and accept everyone has a different method, but she's just plain rude.

No book. Deals with touchy material but does NOT step on anyones toes and is very respectful. She is one of the best teachers I've had in my life. She is a wonderful, funny person and VERY fair, I got 100 in this class, if you get off your butt and go to class & do the assignments (not very many) you will too, its NOT hard and she's a great prof.

Shelagh is a great prof. It is true that she has some contempt for religion, but I have NEVER heard her be offensive or insulting about it, and she is always honest in her evaluation of things. She will never claim that an article is good, for example, just because it validates her own views. Discussion-based class; If you don't go, you'll fail.

Class setting is quite informal, which I didn't like at first but I ended up learning a lot. She has excellent communication and teaching skills and is very helpful if you talk to her outside of class. Some of her regular students are too comfortable with her and are rather irritating and rude, but you'll still enjoy the class.

While she is intellignent and gives a wide variety of material to discuss in class lectures, the class setting is very high school. She is very opinionated, and if you have any religious belief she very clearly disregards your beliefs. It is a required class at SMU, otherwise I would have dropped it, due to her poor religious tolerance.

Amazing professor! One of the bests that I've ever had. She's so nice, cares so much about her students. The class was easy and very interested. Actually wanted to show up! The way that she teaches is unlike any other critical thinking prof that I've heard of. Definitely recommend this class with this prof!

She's interesting. So long as you can defend what you say then she's happy although she's bias with what she talks about in class. If you actually think it's a good course. She encourages discussion and takes the time to learn each students name. If you can actually think it's a good class.

I just found this site. I had Prf. Crooks and she, without question, was the best professor and educator I have ever experienced. She actually taught me to think. I have gone on to a great career and many successes and would have to thank her for much of it. I am baffled by any negative comments. She was absolutely wonderful.Highly recommended

I have found this prof to be generous with her time and expertise. You just have to ask. If you want your thinking style challenged (and why take a phil class at all if you don't!) then you have found someone who will engage you. It is not about who is "right." It is about how you arrive at your conclusions. Excellent prof who practices phil.
