Mr. Karasuda is a funny old man. I found him very entertaining at times. He's always there to help when you have a problem. The problems on the tests are fairly simple. Too bad he's retiring. :(

With grading, Shin spends a lot of time, but papers are marked with vague symbols & overly terse comments. Worst is his "subjective grading" which amounts to unspoken litmus tests. It's neither helpful, ideal, or even standardized. Then, noone can truly self-guage performance nor properly plan ahead. We can't spend dozens of hrs/week on 1 class.

He's very familiar with C++. For others, his communication might seem good, but I find his methodology lacking. He violates a cardinal rule that when a new concept's introduced, it must be clear-cut in that it does NOT involve unclarified or unresolved issues from other concepts. Also, some of his comments are entirely inappropriate for college.

Take a class with him while you can; he is retiring by the end of Fall 2008. A good C++ teacher who explains things well and gives challenging assignments and tests. He will teach you to be a "macho programmer"! :-)

He is funny & laid back. its the closest thing to high school teaching and grading you can get in college. if you stay until the end of class session, you get ex cd point. He takes the best 10 quiz scores out of 12. But he can go quick so you have to keep up. but still easy when he goes over the lesson before any graded work. and h.w. is not collec

Shin is the man. Would not recommend him if you are not a CS major but if you are you will learn so much about C++ and fundamentals of programming. Typically his students that transfer tend to do much better than the students that are at the university. Excellent teacher; extremely helpful during office hours. I wont lie hes tough but hes worth it.

Somewhat hard class but he grades on a major curve. The good thing is that you get points just for showing up, which isn̢۪t even required.

Mr. Karasuda is a nice guy. CS isn't suppose to be easy and only the slackers complain about him. Mr Karasuda teaches you the fundamentals of coding and make sure you program efficiently. You have to do nothing to fail his class. 1/3 = A, next 1/3 = B, next 1/3 = C. His tests are hard, but its a great learning exp.

Best CS teacher here! Does not do bare minimum. No sliding by tests, theyre only hard part. Had to code on paper so practice w/ homework! You better ask questions if you dont get something. Hates laziness, you have to try. Teaches how to plan ahead and program clean & efficient. Easy-going, helpful and nice guy. Learned more than just the book!
