Satsutani-sensee is a great teacher. He explains things in a way that is easy to understand and is always willing to answer questions. Asking questions is the most important part along with reading from the book to establish understanding. No language is easy to learn, but Japanese is difficult. Sensee is tough, but I would say he cares. Work hard!

Had a hard time with this class more than anticipate. He is a fun person to speak with, but sadly he can be harsh when telling you things like " You should already know this..." or "It's not that hard". When he told us about how he has a high drop rate, I figured it was other students not caring...

Although he's a great person and is pretty funny his teaching method is a little disorganized. He doesn't grade homework as you do it so if you make mistakes you won't be aware unless you are actively coming up to ask him. I would suggest studying chapters on your own time before coming to class.

I've taken prof. Satsutani for the last year or so. While early on he might come off as unprofessional. He's really a great guy once you get to know. He is a very strict grader, has a quiz at the end of every class. And participation is basically required everyday in the form of speaking practice. I won't lie when I say you need thick skin for him

Satsutani is a very good teacher, I enjoyed taking his class and have even been inspired to make Japanese my major. In the beginning, he will take it easy on you and even says that there are no concrete due-dates on the workbooks. However, it is up to you to keep up otherwise you WILL quickly fall behind. Study, and pay attention, you will succeed.

I've had Shingo sensei for 2 semesters now and I plan continuing taking his Japanese classes until I graduate. Wonderful teacher, but he can be a bit harsh on grading and there is a quiz at the end of every class. Sometimes we need more clarification, but he's great with giving examples and helping us out when we make mistakes.

Shingo is super amazing. He is a great guy, fun teacher, and very passionate about what he does. I've taken his classes for 3 semesters and went to Japan with him as well. He is tough on quizzes and you get one every day but as long as you do the workbook, study, and show up for class you should be good. Very helpful and very fun in classes.

Professor Shingo is a really funny and interesting person. As long as you try, you will pass easily. Yes, there are quizzes on every class but you know what to study for. Study hard from the beginning. Once you learn the hiraganakatakana well, it won't be that hard. Planning on taking his class next semester too.

He gives quizzes every class, but they all have extra credit opportunities, so if you answer one wrong, it won't affect your grade that much. However, if you don't study, these quizzes WILL impact your grade. The workbook (homework) is a good way to study. KNOW THE ALPHABET! If you don't, you won't pass. He'll explain something more if you ask.

Satsutani sensei is okay. Frustrating at times because he does not like to give anybody help. I emailed him a question about vocab once and he responded with, "I talked about that in class." There are daily quizzes, which he grades pretty harshly. That being said, he's flexible with final grades, and because of daily quizzes, you're forced to study

I'm a fan. He is very funny and it's truly not that hard of a class once you learn the alphabet. He has quizzes every day so it forces you to learn the material really well. He doesn't allow make up tests, but there are a TON of points to be made in this class so it's not the end of the world. You can turn in homework whenever. Highly recommended.

The only way you can succeed in this class is by studying hard every day. You're learning an extremely difficult language so Mr. Satsutani makes you realize this so that you know what you're continuing into. He's very personable, funny, and offers a lot of insight. I highly recommend him as a Japanese teacher!

The class is demanding, &it's a lot to learn in a short time. My problem is his attitude toward students, &picking obvious favorites. If you struggle with the material, even if it is evident that you are trying, he will make fun of you &put you down. He made fun of me so terribly in class that it made me cry, & I was so embarrassed that I dropped.

He's a very funny/interesting teacher. When it comes to the class itself, its very procedural, meaning that you have that there is the same pattern in his quizzes /exams, so you always know what to study for. The cool thing I like about him is that he accepts late work with very little penalty. Overall, I've learned so much japanese from taking him

This class requires an hour of studying per day to do well and not be confused during class. His teaching style is a direct mastery learning style, so if you need a lot of teacher-student interaction or small group work, do not take this class. His accent is not bad, it is easy to understand. There is a quiz every day so be prepared.

The language is hard to learn, and requires a lot of dedication and practice to learn. Shingo made it fun and interesting. although his accent makes it a bit difficult to understand him, he's probably the best teacher to learn from. He's extremely helpful and understanding, and is a riot, as well.
