His lecture style is not very clear and is quite boring, however this class is extremely easy and one can achieve a high mark by completing all of the weekly homework assignments. The textbook was really only needed for the homework as he provides his own notes. In addition he was a very picky marker;he refused to give part marks. He was very nice.

He really is interested in what he's teaching but his marking is a bit extreme. He docks off marks for the tiniest mistakes. Also, his lectures are quite dry but try to participate at least once (you'll get extra marks and he'll like you a bit more) and you'll be okay. But in all honesty he's a very understanding and kind man.

You can tell he's passionate about the subject. Breaks down new concepts pretty well. Quite a few tests/quizzes and there was a simple assignment each week. Tip: participate at least once per class. Ask questions. Then it won't hurt to surf the internet for a few minutes when the 3 hour lecture gets a little dry ;)

Very fair professor. The lectures at times got off topic and as a commuting student, I often opted to learn from the textbook at home to avoid this. Otherwise, he had clear expectations and gave all the information needed to succeed in this course. Do the readings and you'll be fine.

I am taking a class with him right now, and I absolutely love him! He is very chill and easy-going, and you will definitely leave the course with better grammar. Would love to take another course with him, and he is so far one of my favorite professors at Glendon.

The course material is very interesting. The prof is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the material and relates it to real life situations. There is an assignment almost every week, but they are short and fairly easy to do. The course will definitely help improve your grammar. Tests are straightforward and based on lectures, no surprises.

His lectures went by fast, we often talked about stuff that was going on in society which got interesting and then we got to write about it. He gave a lot of assignments but they were very straight forward, not long and really easy to get a good grade. If you participated in class and showed you cared that also helps! No text books, no readings

I took this class as an ENSL student, however, it seems like he is treating his students like we are in an english major student. He is very tough marker and very hard to get over B in this class.

It's totally impossible to get a really good grade as the teacher will not give you an A even if the work is done perfectly. You'll basically treat 7th grade subject and feel like a baby in this class. I didn't learn anything but natives. The assignment he gives us were totally useless to me. Plus I didn't take into account the class willings.

I went to his office hours constantly, it really helped me gain better marks toward the end I ended with a B. First quiz I had I got a 51%, I never studied and the Midterm I studied and got 73%. If I worked hard from the beginning, I would have been able to attain a B+ and I am not an English Major plus I struggle with Grammar.

Prof. Shiv is extremely helpful. His explanations are clear. He is always there to answer your questions. However, he is an extremely hard marker. Getting an A in his class is close to impossible. But, hard work and attendance could prove to be beneficial. I finished the course with an A and would definetely recommended it.

The course itself is not that hard but he is a unfair marker. The highest mark that you can get for assignments is 80.If you want to get a high mark in this course you need to attend all the lectures (you can skip a couple)& you HAVE to participate in class discussions.you need to show him that you are working hard & you care a lot about the course.

Very nice teacher. He may be unclear sometimes and enjoys repeating himself but I think it's really useful that he does that. Yes, reading the textbook helps but listen to what he has to say too. His tests are really simple if you study. He's a great teacher, try his course!

Dr. Shiv is pretty good. His tests are not tricky (if you at least the textbook and do the practise questions, you wont fail.) He told us straight out: linguistics is a pretty boring course. Just TRY too follow along.

He is very bad at teaching, his notes were copied word for word from the textbook. His examples were straight from the book and refused to help us when we had questions.
