Rarely checks email, he was quick to respond at the start, doesn't even acknowledge your email after the first week. Can take 6 weeks to get your papers back which will be graded inconsistently. I'm not sure what happens in his lectures for this class, but you can pass by just reading the book. I wish BCC offered a different professor for this..

Quizes will be strictly out of reading the ENTIRE and hoping you remember the material. Does not respond to email in a timely manner, homework and project assignments every week on the week. Goes on tangents that do not correlate to his lecture. Just vouches for his wonderful Bell Labs and open source

He rarely looks at his email and towards the end of the semester almost completely stopped looking at it. The class is very difficult for people with no prior programming experience and a lot of work. I know people like him but personally I would not take this class again. Textbook is mandatory but you can easily use an online pdf.

Really good guy..hes pretty funny and will keep you awake. Youll definitely need your book for this course..he tends to dumb things down so much that he never really uses Networking "terminology", which makes it difficult for taking tests. If he stopped comparing Networking to the Post Office his class lectures would be much clearer.

Sil is very knowledgable and often goes off on tangents during class. As far as class work it's fairly easy, assignments all A's, as he barely reads them. Quizzes are a guess, he gives no hint as to whats going to be on them. Takes forever to get back to emails and assignments. Unfortunately, no other options are available for networking class.

Ready to take a class with a teacher who is passionate about he subject? Prof. Ferreira is a great source of information and is truly passionate about it. I could only hope that at his age I have his energy. If you don't like work, don't take a class with him.

This teachers a joke & so are his classes! yeah he knows his stuff from his time, but technology advances in time and he still NOTTT even know how to teach sub-netting to a class or even setup an actual network and the what he wants you to add to it so don't expect any help from him

I've taken my fair share of class with Sil over the years and they are all the same. He is very smart and knows a lot but he goes off topic a lot. If you are lost then just ask him in person to help but never email. All of his exams are scaled and he gives a lot of homework. Though the hw is only graded on the format and not on the content.

Sil is a wild man, be prepaired to look for the deeper meaning in his stories if you want to do well. They may seem off topic, but are actually great mnemonic devices. He is a vast well of knowledge, however gets off on tangents a fair amount. He is very understanding with grading and deadlines. Biggest downfall, he does not respond to emails.

Sil bent over backwards to help me out. I made a disaster out of my semester but he stuck with me. As far as work, I have never had a harder class. There is just SO much assigned each and every week. It can be overwhelming. He will never give up on you though. Definitely recommended. He cares about the subject and the student.

Only class this semester I learned something in. Although, he tends to go off on tangents about his hatred for Microsoft and his overwhelming support of open-source. Sorry.. I'm not writing code for free. Wanna get out of a lecture, get him talking about healthcare and anti-trust laws.
