I have had him for 3 classes now, and I got A-, A, A. Weekly quizzes are only worth 10% of your final grade usually. Don't stress over them. FOCUS HARD on the exams, worth much more. He usually gives 6 questions and grades your best 5. If you put in work for the 2 in-class exams and final, you will do just fine!

Comment:

Professor Hayes is a very knowledgeable professor. I'm actually surprised there are so many negative reviews. I had him for two consecutive semesters and initially i got off to a rather rough start. However, if you really focus and aim to understand material, you will learn so much. Lastly, his grading his pretty predictable and expect weekly quiz.

Quite literally the hardest class I have ever taken. I have always been very good at math but this hardly classifies as such. The tests were very difficult and he was so unclear when he attempted to teach... Retaking this class next semester with a different professor.

Weekly quizzes with a single question on it, but the question is almost always the same as one that we did in class/for homework or something to similar to it. Review exams and the actual exams are pretty similar. He does not deserve the dislike that he gets, I'll say the attitude of the some of students is more of the problem.

His process for solving proofs is fantastic once you get the hang of it, but it seems like he comes to class without a plan so he doesn't do a very good job at conveying or teaching the material. For those who don't tend to be good at math, this class could be very hard. For those that are good, it will be a breeze.

Professor Hayes was a terrible teacher. I've always been great at math and had to drop his class. He jumps all over the place in no logical order, doesn't answer questions, is not clear, and doesn't give partcial credit. I would not recommend. DO NOT take his class!! You have to teach yourself. Worst teacher I have ever had.

If you take axiomatic geometry with him, be ready for his tests. He makes them so long that I have written like a mad person non-stop for both tests and could not finish either. It's demoralizing to know exactly what to do and not have the time to do it. Good teacher, grades liberally for unfinished work, probably still have an A, but god damn it.
