This was a 10 week online summer 1000 level music appreciation class. Weekly online timed writtem exams that are difficult, weekly listening quizzes, a 6-8 page written midterm, a 4 page written final, and two 3-4 page written concert reports given less than a week before due. Its an insane amount of work for an introductory course.

Comment:
Had lessons with Yates for 4 years. A detailed teacher-gave a clear awareness of how to practice. Expect a classical educator (basics to Bach). A fun but serious teacher. Yates is an excellent teacher and not a judgmental classical snob. The overall musical environment at APSU is suffocating and hyper-critical. Yates=creative & demanding.

Dr. Yates is a strange bird. His antics are refreshing compared to others. Had him for 4 years so far. Wonderful teacher-clear instructions and expectations. His Guitar Lit and Ped classes are informative and interesting. He does expect more out of students for these classes but-hey-this is college! I am glad I had the opportunity to study with him

Decent class, CD-rom cost $110 is ridiculous especially since thats all you have to study from. Fair grader, i'd done better if I tried. Biggest complaint is the concert attendance assignment which seems unreasonable to me as a college student and parent. Not to mention we don't have any great "symphony" or "broadway" productions going on everday

Not a class about electronics -- about software programs, web site set up, and transcribing and notating. OK class, teacher is a very accomlished guitarist and let's you know it. He is still good though.

Very down-to-Earth teacher. I genuinely enjoyed his classes, and I also learned a great deal. I am now fully proficient with Finale, instead of just winging it most of the time! His accent is also unique and he has a funny way of telling stories.

OH MY GOD! Quite possibly one of the greatest guitarists alive. A great and VERY helpful teacher. If you have the opportunity, take lessons with him.
