Easiest class ever. The teacher is so nice. Your grade in the class really depends on your TA. Lori is the BEST ta ever. Sometimes it's hard to focus on what Varese is saying because of his accent, but if you try really hard you get it. He tells cool stories, and he is full of information. No texting or facebooking in class, ta's are like hawks.

This class is an awesome 4 unit arts and humanities GE credit GPA booster. Personally, I felt the lectures were kind of boring. The professor is really nice and very knowledgeable, but the material is sort of dry. There are some pop quizzes though so you might want to go to lecture. (they're easy)

Dr. Varese is a very passionate and knowledgeable individual. On the first day of class he told us he wanted us to consider his class like a conversation with your grandfather :) There is ALOT of reading, and some of them are kind of tough. But you learn a lot about the theory and struggle of the indigenous people. I really enjoyed the class!

Varese is very knowledgeable, and although his lectures may be boring, he has a very soothing voice, and you just can't help but appreciate the old man. Your TA really determines your grade because he/she grades your book reviews, participation, and final. I got an A+ in the class because my TA was awesome. By the way, the readings are very boring.

He was a horrible lecturer. It was boring, pointless, and unorganized. Going to section was also pointless, but it helps to have an interesting T.A. Book Reviews were extremely easy and sometimes you don't have to read the entire book. Final was take home and easy as well.

Varese is a very knowledgeable source, and is very passionate about what he teaches. Lectures tend to be dull and boring sometimes, but his enthusiasm for the topic does not go unnoticed. He seems like a very nice guy. The class was easy. 60% of the grade is based off of book reviews, which are easy. Final is take home. Generous grading.

I found his class valuable. His passion for the subject matter is obvious. The films he chose were useful to illustrate his points. About 90% of the class is focused on Latin America, so if you're expecting to learn about Native Americans of the US look somewhere else.

Eh, one of the most boring classes I've ever taken. Pop quizzes are given at the end of the quarter. The TAs tend to be pretty bad too. But the class is easy and the papers are easy. And the naps you get in lecture (if you go, that is) are quite refreshing.

Varese's lectures may not be the most interesting, but he has a true passion for the material. He's a very cute little man and has a good sense of humor. The movies are a good break from lecture and are generally interesting. The TAs grade very generously, this is not a challenging class. I highly recommend it as a GPA booster and GE filler.

Varese seems like a really nice guy and all but his lectures are b-o-r-i-n-g. He chose boring books to read and you had to write a paper for each, which were 4 in total. You watch a lot of documentaries which really make you fall asleep. I really wanted to learn the information but..there was no enthusiasm and was just boring.

He lacked structure to his lecture material, it seemed very incohesive as a whole. on the bright side almost your entire grade was writting 4 easy papers. the final was also very straightforward with questions presented beforehand. He is a really smart guy and loves it if the class gets into the lecture material.

Varese is Extremely boring! Most of your grade come from the essays. Be good to your TA, go to their office hours, they control your grade, not Varese. Watch out for TA Silvia, she is very demanding in her discussions and grades super-strict on the essays. Look out for the pop quizzes that count for attendance and read the books.

Varese was a VERY boring professor. I could hardly stay awake in his classes (like almost EVERYONE else). There is NO structure to is lectures and you CANNOT understand him. The discussions were SO boring bc no one was really interested besides the TA. Essays are a BIG part of your grade but the final was so easy that I almost died.

Very easy class, simply because the bulk of your grade is based off four essays. If you can't write essays, get the heck out because you'll end up with a very low grade. The professor is not that bad, but it is kinda hard to pay attention in class. An easy GE. I got an A in it, but i know other who got Cs because they cant write essays!

This class is very easy. Like others have said he can drift into another language and sometimes you don't know what's really important, but he is still a good teacher, and the final is super easy. I swear I finished it in 25 min. Someone said you have to read the books...the more I read the worst I did, but it depends on the T.A. Easy A though!

half the class falls asleep in lecture. most of the time varese is speaking another language. Notes are very difficult to take because you don't know when he's talking about something important. He always sounds like he's talking about random stuff. A lot of reading to do and writing to do. Make friends with your TA
