Professor Barber is the nicest person I have ever met in my entire life. He is brilliant, and he keeps lectures interesting. He does not take attendance, but he makes you want to go. I can not say enough nice things about this man. You will learn a lot in his class without even realizing it. I highly recommend you take a course with him.

I was in the same class. We had to read seven books, not five. Way too many because they were hard. Prof Barber did a good job in explaining them but only the smartest students could understand them. He is a hard grader but an interesting teacher.

Professor Barber is pretty much the nicest guy ever. You read around five books (he had to drop one for our class because of time constraints) and write three essays. He likes you to come to class, but if you have to miss some, he doesn't get angry or lower your grade. It's a good idea to attend, though. Do the work and you'll get a good grade.

Absolutely an amazing individual. Prof Barber is who comes to mind when someone says "ideal professor." English majors at URI are seriously missing out if they do not take a class with him. Few people come close to his level of concern for subject and students.

Honestly, Stephen Barber is amazing. You will never have a professor at URI more concerned with his students and his topic, more helpful, more considerate, ethical, purposeful, interesting, entertaining, and enjoyable. a MUST at URI.. amazing professor. Stephen Barber opened a whole world of learning to me, shows great love for what he does and challenges students to be their best. He is the best professor I have ever had, is extremely bright, highly ethical and valued. I intend to take other courses with him and regard the University of Rhode Island all the more due to him. The class was hard but I learned a lot! Prof. Barber works hard for each class making sure that we're all on board. Lectures and class discussion. I'll take other classes with him for sure. By the way, who ever said he's not hot is just mean and doesn't know what taste is. But so is Rate My Prof. for including this as a category.
