Uses class time to pump politics;has slide shows to accompany his deeply baised political opinions which have little or no relation to the movies;exams contain political messages in no way relating to flim music; midterm essay is easy if done according to ruberic;exams very easy but nigh impossible if you don't attend class. UNBEARABLE personality.

Interesting subject... But not interesting enough to listen to him for 3 hrs. This class was horrible.. I am sure this professor has many many good stories of his past, but dont use Music in Motion Pictures as an excuse to brag about all of them. I don't know what I got out of this class... except good naps.

This man talks WAY too much about his family and how he USED to know so and so and he USED to be great at this. He's bitter and b/c of his position at Mason, he's not going anywhere. choose this class if you can sit for 2.3 hours of talking, hardly any movies

Class was dissappointing since we didn't really talk about music in motion pictures. Follow paper guide lines and you will do fine. Goes off on crazy tangents like the black list and tells all of his personal stories.

Listen, don't let him fool you. The class is worthless. You'll learn nothing of worth in this class. I watched all of the movies the week before each exam & did the paper & I got a B. I never stayed more than 1 hour of a 3 hour class all semester besides the exams. Follow the guidelines of the paper and watch the films & you'll be fine

Heed the others: Avoid at all costs. Movies are chosen not for music but as a segue for him to lecture us on histroy, with focus on Communism/Nasism/Racism. His "music" exams literally included questions on America's Nazi sympathizing past and the House Un-American Activities Committee. You will not learn new things. Avoid.

He is strick on talking and cell phones, which is understand except in class one day this kids phone rang and he quickly put it on silent. The teacher sat for like 10 minutes in silence waiting for the kid to get up and leave the classroom. Since the kid never did he made us all go home early and didn't go over that classes notes.

Worst class ever! He has you watch all these movies and clips about the history of that particular time the movie was made. Most of it has nothing to do with music and it's really boring. Also you have to write a 10 page paper. If you're really good and bsing on papers then maybe you could get a good grade. His test also are difficult. Dumb class!

Very easy. All you have to do is write a weekly email to him about the lectures. We would often just watch movies for half of the class and then listen to him explain the movie for the other half. Easy but can be boring

Mr Burton is a really sweet guy. His class is long, but he knows what he is talking about. If you have a love for music or acting, this is the class to take. You have to watch some musicals, but what would you rather do...watch a few movies or read a boring book for a whole semester? Anyway, he is a great guy, and a great professor. Take this class

wake me up when it's over. besides that, its a very easy honors course & yes he graded the 10 pg paper leniently... but sitting through the classes which you need to go to to write him the weekly evaluations is HELL so may God & your pillow be with you then. he's a nice, well-rounded prof, though.

Burton is the best prepared professor I have encountered in any of my clooege life, spanning 20 years and four different universities. he's retiring, he says, next year. If you get the opportunity, AND you are interested in actually learning from a prof that knows the material, this is for you.

The worst class I have ever taken! Couldn't bare to sit in there for more than 50 minutes. Don't take this class! The paper is easy to do, although it is 10 pages. You have to BS really well. The exams are a different story. If you miss class you will be forced to rent the movie and watch ALL of it!
