Lectures are very monotonous and hard to follow. He jumps around a lot and expects you to learn a lot of material for each test. He is a great man and cares about his students but not a great professor.

Dr. Carls is definitely one of the sweetest people I have ever met. He truly cares about what he teaches - I highly recommend going and talking to him in his office, his passion and sincerity is clear - and even though his classes are relatively easy, you will learn so much if you invest in the class.

great professor who knows what he's talking about. take good notes, pay attention, and study after each class and you should get an A on every test. if you don't study until the night before you won't get the grade you want. gives several extra credit opportunities

Tests are all multiple choice except the final where there is an essay question. Extra credit is offered each test up to 4 points. Also an extra 12 points for extra credit is offered towards the end of the semester.

Super sweet professor. Definitely copy everything he writes down on the board and make sure you listen because his test questions come exactly from the definitions of the terms he talks about in class. His tests cover a lot of information, but the questions are very straightforward and come from terms he writes down on the board.

Dr. Carls is a really sweet man. Write down everything he writes down on the board. Tests are kind of long, but not tricky; they come exactly from what he says in class. He hands out a terms sheet for the tests and tells you exactly what to study from it. Every test has extra credit options. I dont like history but he made it much better.

Dr. Carls is a sweet, sweet man. He is VERY hard, though. I am one of those people who can fly through tests and get an A, but that's not the case in this class. Copy down every single word he says. Overall, though, I learned a ton in his class, and his love for history is admirable. He is easy to work with if you have issues in class. Take him.

Tok HIS 101 under Dr. Carls. I LOVED his class. Yes he does have a corny sense of humor but he is funny. He knows his history and his lectures tell an interesting story. He is old school with no powerpoints or videos but a great teacher. Take him!

This one is ancient history, guys. I'm speaking of my comment, not the professor. (LOL!) Dr. Carl's was my professor when I was a history major and pre-legal minor at Union from 1984 - 1987. I loved him then and still love him so much that I remembered him 25 years later. I loved the way he laughed at his own jokes. Nostalgicly LMBO! Awesome mind!

Structured lecturing, as though he's telling world history as one, great story. Easy exams, made possible by decent notes and studying. Pleasant sense of humor, although often corny. Kind personality and soft spokeness. Great professor for those less interested in delving into the deepness of history.

Dr. Carls is awesome. His jokes are corny, but they do make you smile (whether you laugh at the joke or laugh at him for trying). His test are fine if you study. Very consistent. He loves people who are Tennessee Vols fans.

He is a sweet, friendly old man. His jokes are extremely corny, but fun. If you are in Lambda Chi or Chi Omega he will love you! He was in Lambda Chi in college. You need to take notes to do well on his tests. He gives extra credit. His tests are easy for me, but I memorize everything. If you want a teacher who truly teaches, then he is for you!!!!

Very eccentric and very nice. His jokes are all laughy taffy, but they lighten the mood. His tests are unbelievably easy if you studied whatsover. 50 questions multiple choice. Take your lap tap to type notes. makes it easier. I dunno why noone else did. because we all do in every other class at union. I would definitely take him. NO HOMEWORK!
