This is a lesson in not basing your opinion upon Chan's ratings: I can't believe so many ppl are complaining about Chan. I think he is clear. His class is one of my favs. He cracks jokes and is very approachable. He is a nice guy and a very good teacher. I am very happy to have had him as a teacher. I wouldn't mind having him again. This is honest!

I think Dr. Chan can be a little difficult to approach. If you are genuinely interested /good student, this makes a big difference. Esp. being genuine. If you have questions, make sure you have looked for the answer first. Like any prof., they don't need to waste time, if you aren't putting forth the effort. Respect is imp. in addressing him .

I don't know what's up with all of the negative comments- but maybe if you think this class is too hard you shouldn't be majoring in biology. I'm not a genius or a very hardworking student for that matter- I never developed good study habits and sometimes don't even do the reading and I'm doing really well in this class. It helps if you love Bio.

In order for this guy to pay any attention to you, you HAVE to show an interest in biology. I brought in some deer bones I found in the woods and asked him to help me identify them (even though I knew what they were) and everytime he saw me after that he treated me like gold. Stoke his ego a little and show a common interest and he will be eating out of the palm of your hand. Otherwise you're in trouble; his bad side is not where you want to be.
