Comment:
First humanities class and I was so happy I took it with Cox. There is a ton of reading in this course, but if you go to lecture and pay attention he does a great job of analyzing everything to where you feel life you've read the book. Midterm and Final are lecture based and make sure to pick a good TA. I thoroughly enjoyed his insightful analysis

Professor Cox knows his history and tries to make lectures interesting. However, he didn't use any powerpoints, slides, or much else, so it was hard to stay focused with what he was saying. Essay prompts were pretty easy, but grades were dependent on TAs. PAY ATTENTION to what he writes on the board! I didn't and they were on the final.

He is a good person and prof. I respect Dr. Cox. However, there are tons of readings in old English and writings. He does examine everything clearly, but if we accidentally think about something else in lectures, we would never be able to catch up to him again. Grade depends on you TA, not him.

Cox is a great professor, but he doesn't use slides or podcast. I sometimes get lost in his class, and there is no chance to look back if you don't take the notes. Grade mostly depends on your TA.

His lectures are amazing and finals are based on them. What he puts on the board is going to be in the final. A TA can make or break your grade since they grade the essays which contain the majority of the grade. He is overall nice and knowledgeable. Although I didn't understand the hype about him, he is not a choice that I've regretted.

Professor Cox is an amazing professor. He is very funny and intelligent, explains concepts in a clear way, and is very precise about what he wants us to know. The final is heavily based on lectures so go to class! The readings and essay prompts were feasible and incorporated the course material very well, but still required careful consideration.

He's an interesting speaker, but his lectures don't exactly help with the prompts he gives for the essays. His lectures are basically prep for the final because that's mostly what the exam is based on. He uses no power-point or slides and he doesn't podcast. So you need to be able to stay awake with someone talking your ears off for a whole hour.

Cox is extremely knowledgeable, and his lectures reflected that. Things did seem to drag on a little in the middle of the quarter but still interesting. Coursework & grade were far too dependent on TA--get a good one. Final was excessive: two essays and 20 questions in three hours. HUM is tough, but I would recommend Cox if you have to take it.

Professor Cox really knows his stuff. He tries to interact with his students during class and outside of class by holding lunches, which is really important. His dedication to his students is a very strong quality about him. He replies to your e-mails with clear and helpful responses. Would definitely recommend for humanities.

Dude. I love this professor. His hand gestures make the class so much more engaging. If you want to learn in his class, professor Cox makes it happen. He is sooo open to questions, and will even email you at midnight of the final to answer any last minute questions. Seriously a great professor, person, and lecturer. Would take all hum series w him

Cox was a funny and engaging professor. I originally went into the class thinking that I would fall asleep during every lecture, but I didn't fall asleep once. His interpretations of the book really gets you thinking. You just have to cross your fingers that you get a good TA. The final practically had all repeated themes on it ,so go to class!

Professor Cox is a really good lecturer. He always comes to class fully prepared. He loves what he is doing and he cares so much for his students. He makes really good points about the readings in class so going to class is a great idea. This is a writing class so your grades are kind of up to the TA's. Lectures help a lot with essays though

Professor Cox was great, he's one of the smartest professors out there. If you ever speak to him personally about anything unrelated to class, his knowledge of history and lit. will astound you. His class was informative, you genuinely feel like you're learning something, and that your time is not being wasted. Would take him again in a heartbeat.

I love Dr. Cox! He's funny and he teaches lecture in a way that allows you to make your own interpretation of the books read. Go to his luncheons and get to know him. Know the themes presented in each book and you'll be good for the final.

He's an excellent lecturer with a sense of humor and managed to keep about a 95% attendance rate all quarter. Instead of calculating grades mathematically, he picks something along the lines of a median that drops your "outlying" grades. TAKE HIS CLASS FOR HUM 1!

Cox is the best! He is very nice and approachable at his office hour. He makes lecture very interesting, talks slow so you have time to write down important points in the readings. NO ppt but he writes all the important terms on the board and explains them in lecture. Most importantly he holds a review session before final. Take. him. !
