I would definitely recommend this class and Professor Doig. He genuinely wants to see you succeed. He communicates really well with his students and has a strong online presence, as many online teachers do not! You will need the textbook for this class. Easy extra credit is offered, so take advantage of that!

This is a class that goes over basic statistics, so if not math inclined, may be a little more difficult. You definitely want to read the material, watch the lectures, and download the powerpoints to use during quizes and tests. Quizes and tests are untimed, and open note/book/everything.

I found his class to be rather difficult at times, some of his quiz questions were confusing and very unclear. I didn't really enjoy this class because it was mainly a statistics class and I'm really bad at statistics. He knows his subject matter though.

Interesting material, decent lectures. Quizzes can be tricky if you are not confident in understanding the material. I found the material interesting, but you do have to listen to the lectures and I highly recommend downloading the powerpoint presentations to review.

Mr. Doig is an okay professor, but this course-media research methods-was difficult for me as I am not very good at math. The math used in the course is basic stats and middle school math. He gives several units as homework weekly and there are only 2 exams; a midterm and final, which are difficult, they were for me anyway.

The class is a breeze except for the final, that was tough for me. I did listen to all of the lectures which are essential for passing, along with the book. Nice guy, knows his stuff.

This class is about how statistics work in the media. I found it very interesting. Prof Doig will give feedback in the discussion boards and actually interact with the class. You do have homework and tests, but that is to be expected. Nothing too difficult here and he offers extra credit if you need it.

The class is "Media Research Methods" but I only had one, 15minute-ish, lecture on actual research methodsfinding valid sourcesetc. I've spent the semester crunching numbers in a pseudo-statistics type of course that focuses, I guess, on research data. He explains things in basic ways and asks specific questions on tests. Wouldn't recommend

If you're interested in data journalism, take Steve's class. He's one of the best in the field and is an excellent resource. It doesn't that seem people struggle in his class, but those inept at using computers should probably stay away.

You can tell that he genuinely cares about the success of his students. Even in a cable class of 200+ students he always made himself available and replied quickly to emails. The class is an easy A if you actually do all of the homework and take advantage of the extra credit. I didn't mind this class at all. He is a great guy on top of it too!
