Comment:

Mr. Gaffney is an excellent approachable teacher, giving informative presentations and brief lectures in most classes. He comes around to critique your work a couple times or so per class, and inspires you to improve. He focused on anatomy and structure of bones/muscles rather than rendering techniques. Definitely take him!

Gaffney is well informed, caring & passionate. He's like a dad figure. Even though he dislikes critiquing, he gives the best feedback. He pushes you to see not only life drawing in a new way but so much more. He helped push my drawing skill to a whole other level. He is honest but kind. I wish he taught anatomy.

Stephen Gaffney is an incredible teacher and one of the most inspiring instructors at SVA. He is completely genuine and shows deep care for his students. He teaches you so much drawing technique but manages to make it natural and painless. He wants everyone to draw in their own way and he relates drawing concepts to the whole field of design.

Easily one of the most inspiring & extremely intelligent instructors at SVA. Would take him again in a heartbeat. He's a delightful man with a lot of insight & skill. Great teacher & super helpful. I took his continuing ed beginning painter's class. Although I have previous experience in painting, I found his teaching to be extremely helpful. He is responsible, knowledgeable and personable. He walks around during class to instruct each and every student, which is something I wish more teachers would do. Please take his class.

Stephen is awesome! Down to earth, friendly and approachable. Helps you to better understand the figure drawing process. You'll definitely see yourself improve. Homework was minimal; he knows that we have other classes to worry about. He was big on traditional design methods that urged you to step away from the computer, which I found refreshing.

One of my favorite classes at SVA! he is very helpful in drawing and is willing to discuss about art in genral. teaches a student to learn--a way of seeing that could grow into many things. He was a life-saver to me in terms of structure in drawing/painting.very patient and nice. AND very, very much good-looking. ^^

I have taken many classes since I arrived in the USA more than a decade ago and he is by far the most interesting, caring, talented and clear, teacher I ever had. My skills improved greatly from the very begining. Stephen is a passionate and sofisticated person, and yes rumble and with agreat sense of humor. Yes he is hot (and married).

I had him for advanced drawing. Saw a great improvement in my drawing thanks to his teaching. Also, if you can't make a class, you can make it up at one of is many many other classes. Also didn't requre 10 million dollars worth of supplies. I'd love to take a class with him again

I wish I had a teacher like him whenI was at Parsons School of Design. He is clear, no ****, smart, but humble. And he got me back into painting.Most of the art teachers I encountered after four years in art school were into themselves. This teacher is into his students, process and all. ****ing rare!Take him if you can.

GREAT CLASS! After each demo, I always tend to draw better or very well... coz before demos, I draw crappier usually. He makes anyone's drawing skills improve way better. He's also funny, nice, & handsome lol. He kinda looks like Joaquin Phoenix =]
