Solid professor, not the easiest grader, but interesting lectures, he is very passionate about the subject. 3 small papers, one Midterm, one Final paper, and discussion questions make up grade. Easy to pass, just by doing all of the assignments, but need to dig deeper and give examples that he agrees with in order to get an A

He has real world examples to relate the course material to what we experience as students day to day. He makes complex concepts very easy to understand.

A lot of reading but honestly you can get by with reading only a portion. There are like 4 papers in the semester. You wont want to miss his class. He has a gift of teaching the history and characteristic of Empires in an entertaining manner. I actually learned from this guy. Very interesting class. I definitely recommend.

Lectures and assignments were good. However, he really didn't make himself available most of the time - in person or by phone. He shirked his position as advisor and didn't bother to read theses by my colleagues and I. In some cases he passed them off to another faculty member.

UMass is lucky to have a brilliant, accomplished, and well-respected archaeologist on staff. It is clear that he cares about both the subject and his students. An entertaining yet informative educator, Maz tells it like he sees it. Take all of his classes and, when you do, expect to learn a lot and have a good time doing so. He is amazing.

Nice professor and interesting class. He would often go off topic during one of his many comedy routines, but it helped keep a dry subject interesting. Overall a class worth taking.

He is great to listen too and his tests are straight forward. I had him as an adviser though and he was next to impossible to get a hold of, he never answered any of my emails and I had to switch advisers. He has two tests and a paper for this class. He will usually tell you what is important to read for tests.

Lol at the comment on UMass and Steve being waste. shameful personal attack, and bogus to boot. Had Steve as a prof and grad advisor, and in both aspects prepared me thoroughly (as the rest of UMass profs in grad program) for phd work. highly recommend.

Steve Mrozowski is one of the most knowledgeable professors I've ever taken a class with. He is extremely funny and keeps his students interested in a subject (archaeology) that many might find dry.

I LOVE HIM. He's hysterically funny, and is grounded in reality. He makes you laugh all semester and then surprises you in the end when you realize that all the while you were actually learning! Take his class. This guy is brilliant!

Not recommended. He may be funny, but he's always late and then leaves early. Didn't promote the best learning environment. He's an old fossil himself.

Do yourself a favor and take this man's class. Any of his classes. You will laugh even if you have a dismal sense of humor, and it will make your life seem all that much easier to bear. Gotta love Steve.
