Taking a course with Stephen is a true opportunity to study with a genius. You may get lost or discover you understand but can't find words to convey that understanding. My brain hurt sometimes trying to wrap my head around it but I got infinitely smarter by taking Stephen's courses. And he is so nice and understanding and sees things in your work you may not have even known were there. If you have a chance to study with Stephen do it. Learning from this man is a rare opportunity and a true gift

Prof Pfohl is an excellent professor. His enthusiasm is infectious and he is renown in his field of deviance and social control. He incorporates multimedia into his lectures, which are well worth attending. Unlike most professors, Stephen is very approachable and down to earth. A fantastic class to take, an opportunity not to be missed!

Alright, I was never in any of his criminology or sociology classes. Not my field. But he was around and about on campus, and a swell guy (and I have read a book by him). The thing I will never forget about Stephen, is that he is a giant -- but that he is so naturally intent on not intimidating anybody that you would see him standing *with*knees*bent* for 20-30 minutes at a time to keep the people he was talking to at eye level.

This was one of the best courses I had at BC. He is on the avant-guard of sociological theory, and enthusiastic about his research. Very fair, very empathetic, and a great lecturer, I recommend him highly!
