Comment:
If you like teaching a subject to yourself take this class. The whole class is based on 3 tests (and a couple Extra Credit assignments that aren't worth much) which are entirely based on the book. His lectures are completely irrelevant (but are somewhat interesting) In order to pass you have to read the book and teach it to yourself.

All you do is go to class and take notes off the lecture slide while he is talking about anything other than the subject, sometimes funny though. Only 3 tests total that count towards your grade so make sure to study good for all of them! and the online activities that go along with the book are a good way to study

The only reason I went to class was to listen to his crazy stories and his sarcasm. Didn't read the book because he covered just about everything during lectures. Posts a study guide and just studied off of that for the three exams. Extra credit opportunities required a 3 page essay and was definitely not worth the trouble. No one pays attention.

Very rude and crude sense of humor. Boring lecturer and he never posts the power point slides on blackboard so you have to come to class pretty much, Nobody ever pays attention either.

Very rude, arrogant professor with a very odd dry sense of humor. Only take him if you HAVE TO... He ONLY reads from his power point, does not elaborate other than talking about the real housewives of EVERYWHERE... When ask for help he makes you feel inferior. AVOID!

In this professors class right now. He reads off ppt slides and doesn't really elaborate. Looking around, all the students are not paying attention- including myself. Class is boring & 3 tests throughout semester. No office hours. If you like teaching yourself, take this class. Very arrogant teacher.

BORING CLASS. he has a distasteful personality and doesn't care about his students. Easy A but only if you study on your own. students who attended his class seemed to do worse on tests. I recommend taking a different teacher if possible.

Powerpoints are posted online. Lectures do not provide any depth to the powerpoints, so don't bother going unless you want to waste 2 hours of your life each week there. 3 midterms (one is a final) and they are pretty simple as long as you take the time to answer the discussion questions at the end of each chapter powerpoint.

This soc class is terrible, I recommend getting another professor that is interesting and won't make you fall asleep. Most importantly, there are 3 exams, so you can't screw it up on one single exam. Lectures are pointless.

3 tests. Read the book. Going to class isn't mandatory but he might offer an extra credit paper on a video shown only in class. Take a different professor if you can.

Schlereth did not encourage class discussion due to rash/insulting comments. His sarcasm is difficult to work with and he makes it very clear what he thinks of you (generally negative). This class has so much potential to be relevant to people's lives, and yet I've never been in a quieter session.

If you want to learn and care about sociology this is not the professor for you. I'm a soc major and I expect to walk into a class and be engaged by the information... I love my major. But... not here. This professor disappoints. PLEASE TAKE ANOTHER CLASS or CHOOSE A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR! Not worth wasting your education time in his classes.

He is not meant to teach at all. I first thought he had touretts, but it was just him being rude and yellingand thinking he's funny. And he he wonders why his students are bored.

Unnecessarily rude. If he inputs your grade incorrectly or forgets to give you EC he promised to give, good luck trying to tell him that. Make sure you have proof that you turned in your EC and that you were in class. You'll only have 3 exams and they're ridiculously hard. I'm a straight A student and I studied harder than ever and still struggled.

BEWARE!!This class may seem incredibly easy, after all it is only an intro. course for soc. There are only 3 exams and the final is not cumulative (Thank God)yet it's incredibly easy to earn a C by not taking this class seriously. SOC 101 is interesting, but this man is BORING.I found myself sleeping during his lectures, btw I sat first row.

Class is boring. All the tests come directly from the book, so if you don't read the book you are screwed. Ended up with a B in the class because I didn't do any of the extra credit papers. Overall, the teacher is alright but the class itself is super boring

Class follows very simple format, read text, study Lecture notes take tests. No required papers or Research papers, only 3 Extra Credit papers from in class movies.Do them they boost your grade allot. Opinionated by comical and funny, overall a cool and easy going professor. He does not like slackers. Fairly easy class but insightful and useful.
