Comment:
His lectures were pretty pointless; he is hard to understand and his handwriting is only slightly more legible than a scribble. Even then, his lectures were only vaguely related to what you need to know. I learned the course material exclusively from the book. If you don't enjoy reading and learning on your own, take this with a different prof.

Comment:
Steven Sperber is a good guy but terribly boring lecturer. Often times you can't read his writing and he doesn't do many applications for a class with the word in the course title. The bulk of the lectures are proofs which is fine but none are on tests - the practice tests are almost identical to the tests.

Comment:
Very unorganized and hard to understand his lectures as he writes very sloppily on the chalkboard. His tests are relatively easy if you understand the practice problems that he posts because the actual tests are almost identical to the practice tests.

Comment:
It was just a boring class. He will write (extremely sloppy) proofs the entire lecture, none of which are required to know. If you have taken calc 2 at the U, you won't learn more than a few basic elements of real analysis. You will have to write proofs but without much rigor. Anybody with calc 2 and a hint of proof writing talent has an easy A

He's an old man that stopped teaching for about five years and then started again 2013. In my opinion, he should have retired for good. His lectures were horrible. He didn't really care about explaining. He just wrote proofs the entire time. His test were ridiculous. My TA even said so. Road the book cover to cover if you want to learn something.

This was his first time teaching a non-Honors class and it showed: He doesn't know how to talk to a large lecture hall; his lectures were nearly pointless; he makes you feel stupid for asking questions; and, he acts like he doesn't want to be teaching. This class has made me wonder not only if I want to major in Math, but go to college, in general.

Let's face it, math can be pretty boring, but Dr. Sperber breathes some life into it. Not only did I manage to stay awake during his lectures, I also learned a lot. After putting in the effort, I walked away with a decent grade. Recommended!

It could just be the material, but in Sperber's class I don't remember a single real application. I stopped listening two weeks into class because I just don't care about what he lectured about. It's all in the book anyway.

Goes through material like there's no tomorrow, but still manages to prove every theorem AND give examples. I agree with a previous post about the chalk; he uses about a pack per day. The Brooklyn accent helped keep me awake sometimes.

All I have to say is wear protective gear if sitting near the front. Its like a war zone with the way this guy breaks chalk ands sends it spewing. Singlehandedly keeps crayola in business. Unclear teacher but hilarious comments keep you coming for more
