I personally loved Wilkens. His teaching style is straight lecture and no powerpoint, but I really enjoyed the material and his sarcastic sense of humor. You definitely have to study for the tests but there are only 3, and 3 two-page reflection papers that are super easy. I would definitely recommend! Show up & pay attention & you should be fine!

You NEED to give yourself at least two weeks to write the paper. I did it in a week and got a C+, Great guy super helpful. He will even go out of his way to guide you toward sources. There is only a mid-term, 20page paper, & final so do everything.

Can make philosophy interesting when boring, but the class heavily depends on participation from the class as well. He is a great professor, but when the class is dead it can be hard to stay interested. You will do good if you read, but the reading is tough, and there are a fair amount of papers. Overall would recommend

Very personable and clear lectures. Tangents are hilarious yet he surprisingly succeeds in relating it back to the course content well. Super laid back in the right areas but still engaging and intellectually stimulating. Every time I approached him for help he was more than happy to give feedback and encouragement. Basically TAKE HIS CLASS.

You have one 20 page paper and two exams. Read and go to class you'll be fine. He gives you a lot of direction when it comes to the paper BUT you need to be willing to ask for it. Really great guy all around and its true, he buys the class pizza for study sessions.

PHIL340 is a huge disappointment for anyone really interested in the subject matter. Lectures aren't necessary to attend; I didn't learn anything from him that I didn't learn in my lower level classes. He uses two books, both by the same biased author, and isn't open to discussion that deviates from his way of thinking. I was hoping for more.

Awesome professor. Out of 7 professors he was one of two of my favorite. Held study session before exams and took pizza and drinks. He breaks down the readings (must) in a clear and concise manner. No trick questions.take him for the upper writing course, worth it.

This class was AMAZING. Wilkens is a great teacher who knows his stuff. Since it was an upper division writing class, we had one paper that was worth ALOT. If you gives him rough drafts or email him portions of your paper, he'll critique and point you in the write direction. Both the midterm and the final were pretty easy. Great teacher and class.

Good Intro to philosophy teacher. Makes philosophy accessible and understandable. Fairly easy tests/paper. REALLY cares about students, incredibly nice and very available. I would highly suggest him if you dislike philosophy or have little experience with it-Wilkens is just an overall nice guy and easy to learn from.

Tests are easy if studied for moderately; the 8-10 page paper is graded fairly easily, and one can miss a few classes, get the notes from someone else, and still do well. A lot of pages of reading are given, but it's not necessary to do all of it to do well. -Reviewed by a freshman honors student.

This class was interesting. The research paper was intense (20pgs.! yikes!). But he's very considerate and very fair in grading. If you go to class and take notes and actually try to understand what they're talking about you'll do good on the tests! He's very nice!Go2 the review sessions 4 sure!

Steve is a philosophy master. He knows his stuff. The tests aren't hard if you come to class and take good notes. All the test questions are in his provided note packet. However, they are very difficult questions. 1 8-10 page paper.
