The best professor I ever had in undergraduate or graduate. If you're a student at UMass Boston go out of your way to take a class of his. You'll learn a ton, and he's hilarious.

Fantastic professor, firm but fair grader, lectures are interesting, and he certainly knows his stuff. Encourages students and genuinely wants everyone to do well. My particular class was all papers that were fairly straight forward and half of which were opinion based. Also lets you choose your own topics on bigger papers and projects

Professor Ackerman should have a 5 overall quality. He is simply on of the best professors at Umass and it is not even close. High recommend him. I can not say enough great things about his honors classes.

Loved his lectures. He knows a lot about many things and his style allows you to learn bio in a meaningful, applicable way. He is not assignment-heavy and not a tough grader. For the most part, he lets you choose what to focus on for assignments. I learned a lot from his class, and that is not something I can easily say. Also, super funny. 5/5.

He is extremely annoying. he expects you to be in every class and listen to his pointless stories. even after doing all teh work, getting a good grade is not easy, he makes teh class difficult for no reason.

Molecular Bio was interesting. He really knows the material and will let you know what is important to know for the tests. So just listen to what he says and don't bother buying the book. no need. plus he records the lecture and post slides up (don't bother reading the slides like he says unless your an insomniac)

Great professor, one of the best in Umass Boston, extremely smart, very funny. Class itself is very hard. Lab is the best lab in Umass. Exams are challenging but possible. Overall great professor and extremely interesting class.

Uses no text book. Does not make slides available before the lecture but this is really not a problem since the slides are a random collection of odds & ends. Tests are all essay and graded according to his mood. However, he is very good at answering questions.

Maybe the best professor I've ever had. He's super up-to-date on literature so he can relate everything to current research. He's funny and easy-going but conveys the subject matter in an interesting and thorough manner. I didn't take the lab from him so I'm not sure how that is.

you need a recorder in order to survive his class! The lectures are very quick and he gets fustrated when asks to repeat himself. The test are ambiguous and you have no idea what he's asking of you!

Ackerman is one of the best professors UMASS has to offer - he's excited about the subject as well as teaching, organized and stays up to date on the material. His lectures were informative and his exams were more than fair. Molecular lab was excellent as well.

Very knowledgeable and has a good teaching approach. May come off as a bit of a nutjob to some but he really likes his job and the university, and will be able to answer just about any question you present on the material. Tests are approachable. The lab for this class is perhaps the most relevant in the department to real world lab work. Take it.

Dr. Ackerman is a knowleadgable source with a sense of humor, disdain toward administration, and strong will to teach. Though not an active researcher, he is far more teaching oriented. Overall, he challanges the individual student to think for themselves and dicipline their work ethic to further their own interests. He's a good professor.
