His lectures are very condensed, so be ready to type/write really fast! He doesn't have any clicker questions or quizzes, so most of your grade relies on your final draft of your essay instead. I've taken him for SSI in 2 3-hr lectures per week , and he makes sure we're let out at least 30-40 minutes earlier. Read the course reader and you're fine.

Class was great the few times I went. He's very passionate about what he was teaching (Edgar Allan Poe). Two midterm papers (5 pages long each) and a final research paper (8-10 pages long). Good thing about this was class was that one of the midterm papers you could switch out for a dramatic reading, which was super fun. Great prof and class.

Dr. Cassedy presents material in a more conceptualphilosophical way, therefore it was easy for me to get lost in his train of thoughts because he elaborates so much. I did very well on the midterms without attending class all the time, big concepts important, his test will ask you to talk about things in the readings.

His way of explaining things is extremely difficult to understand and follow. I showed up to every lecture and went to his office hours regularly and yet still got C's and B's on his midterms. Extremely hard grader. Wouldn't recommend him for religion.

Very enthusiastic and passionate professor. Unfortunately for me content went in one ear and out the other. Essays are all dependent on how your TA's grade. Midterm/final comprised of 3 essay questions/prompts, and you get to choose 2 out of 3 to write about. Solid class overall.

Cassedy's lectures might be a bit dry(I found myself spacing out more than once in the same lecture), but he's actually a pretty good professor. I took this class during the summer, and even though it was fast-paced, it was actually a Iot easier than MMW during the school year. Section was optional. It was great.

I recently took his summer Hum 5 course and I have to say that he is a very fair professor. He assigns one long paper (8 pgs) to write throughout the span of 3 weeks. The prompt was very self explanatory and open to any of the literary works read in class. Cassedy is a bit monotone but very knowledgeable and welcomes questions and discussion.

He is a real respectable professor. I learned from his lectures for life time. He Play music very well and he teach as good as he plays. You should take him for MMW 5. the grade is depend on your TA so I can't tell you if your grade would be good. Sjhari is a good TA.

Cassedy definitely loves the subjects that he teaches about, but at the same time he rambles on and on repeating the same thing in different words, always reaching the same conclusion. Also speaks pretty slow, so its very easy to daydream. His tests are easy, only studied 2-3 before the exam.I also didnt do any of the reading, but still expect a B+,A-

He was obviously passionate about the subject, yet he had trouble sticking to one theme or topic for each lecture. He never seemed to conclude or resolve any thoughts. But over all, this was an easier MMW class (TA has a huge part) but not very interesting.

Passionate professor... he likes to say "what the hell does that mean?"... he gives extra credit and his exams are all essay, no mc/sa. the reader was pricey, though.

Awesome professor! Very clear, informative and funny lectures, though can be a bit long-winded at times. Most papers are very open-ended and exams are easy, he actually reads your papers and is generous with grades, at least in my experience. I am trying to take as many classes with him as possibly before he goes on leave next year!

I took Cassedy for Romantic Music, an upper div music class during the summer. Super easy class because it's accomodating to both music people and non-music people. Plus, he plays the piano so well. Very talented guy.

TAs basically determines your grade, Lissie Ann is a hard TA but very helpful, my essay writing skills really went up in that class. He defiantly focuses on the treatement of Jews and that̢۪s a good topic to focus for tests. Divide the questions for the final among some trusted friends and share the info. While the reading is helpful the main focus

Took him in the summer. It's really hard to take notes in his class, because he jumps all over the place. However, he does give study guides and his tests were really fair and he seems very nice and approachable too. You didn't have to read the reader to do well on the tests either. Overall, he's a pretty good teacher. I would recommend him.

Cassedy is amazing. I really enjoyed the course despite hating MMW - he's such a character, you can't help but not be interested in what he's saying. He's also extremely understanding and very approachable. Overall, great professor and I wish there was another course I could take with him.

I though he was great! He is very clear in his speech and if you do not understand something he will clarify it for you in a heartbeat. I also enjoyed his class a lot because he is a very interesting individual. If you get time, ask him about where he did his undergraduate, it may surprise you!
