Comment:
This professor is very knowledgable about American History BUT the way he teaches isn't helpful at all. It's like he's talking to people who already know the material, which I would love to learn it but his teaching style prohibits me from doing so. If you know history then I would recommend this but if you don't then try to find a better teacher.

The class is simple, there are 4 tests. No outside assignments so if you study a few days in advance you'll do well in this class. Professor DeZwart is pretty cool and knowledgeable. Taking notes helps you know where you are in the class but mainly focus on the study guides for tests. I recommend you take this class!

I took once a week night classes and he would talk from 6PM to 8;30PM straight, no breaks. Nice guy though. He helps those who ask for it. 4 tests. Reading straight from the book doesn't help too much to be honest. Pay attention and go to class and you should be fine

Go to class or he will hold it against you. He's really funny and won't hesitate to make fun of people who skip. Tests aren't too bad if you pay attention to the lectures and study.

Take notes in class. Didn't have book but it was probably very useful. He gives study guides and gives you a chance to ask questions before class. Each test you have to write an essay or two. Not bad class at all and he made it interesting enough.

He is so smart but when he talks about all of the different things dealing with whatever topic is going on for the day its more like a whole encyclopedia of topics that only make sense to him. He doesnt use webcourses so you have no idea how to communicate other than his one or two emails a semester. Tests are straight out of the book word for word

Really easy class. Has only 3 tests and a final. Received a 100 in his class with studying 2-3hours before each test and doing nothing else except paying attention in class. Gave us a test with the exact same 40 questions on the test and he tells you the essay topic before each test. There is no homework or out of class essays.

Attendance is mandatory and if you miss he will hold it against you. Study guide is not helpful, book is useless, lecture notes don't help. Nice man but comes off extremely rude. curves the test and take question from the online quizzes associated with the book. probably around a C in class

The tests aren't on the lecture notes or what he says in class. He gives study guides for each test which sometimes give the exact questions. 3 tests and a final which is not cumulative. Tests are sometimes hard but he gives curves.

He's a nice guy, but his lectures are completely useless. He gives out a study guide before tests, but there is no clarity to it. He actually told the class "I'm going to have to revamp this course next semester, since most of you aren't passing these tests." Our final grades, not individual test grades, have to be curved due to so many low grades.

DON'T TAKE THIS TEACHER. He's a nice guy, but his lecture is just him rambling on and even if you do the study guide, the test are rediculously hard.

Dezwart was super easy. I highly recommend going to class and taking good notes. The whole class consisted of three tests none are cummulative but the last one (final) has cummulative bonus questions. just be prepared to sit through some rambling. I recommend taking the once a week class because he rarely lectures for more than two hours.

Easy professor. I screwed up in first 2 exams because of MCQs. I was thinking I'll end up in C but he curved my grade to A-. The exam and essay questions come right from the study guide and nothing comes from his lecture slides. For essays, read the conclusions of relevant book chapters. THat's what I did and got full points in essays.

Such a sweetheart. His tests are relatively easy and gives HUGE curves, however what is on the study guide is never on the test. Attendance is not required but gives "helpful bonus' " randomly when you do show up. Need the book 100% cause his lectures can be boring and not relative to the tests. Read the chapters and you will be fine. Always lets o

You will learn nothing in this class. He rambles on about who knows what and when it comes time for the tests, test questions have nothing to do with what was lectured or found in the book. Take a different professor!

Mainly the only grades are the tests which are multiple choice. Some tests had 2 essay questions which were simple if you read. Class is a bit boring but he curves all the tests and lets you out 30 mins- 1 hr early always. Don't completely rely on the study guide bc not much in it was on the final exam. Just read the book and you will pass.

Never stays on topic, does not answer email or follow thru w/promised study guides. His "real job" is teaching high school, so he is more focused on that than his college class. On the plus side, his tests are multiple choice. On the down side, test essay questions MUST be in "historically accurate language" or you will not receive credit.

DeZwart is great; I've never learned so much in a class before. He is absolutely fascinating if you listen during his lectures. He grades on a very fair curve, and lets you out of class early, but you don't feel cheated. 3 tests and a final, multiple choice. Gives great study guides. He is very approachable and extremely nice. Definitely recommend

He looks and acts like Bill Lumberg from the movie "office space" and his lectures are about as interesting as watching paint dry. Having said all of that, though, he has the humility and patience of a buddhist monk. He also doesn't give any busy work and will give a good review before exam time. I will be glad to have him again.
