Easiest class I've taken in my life. Exams are 60% true false, most of which are common sense. He is incoherent and disorganized though, as far as learning anything in the course, you won't get much out of it (I took "thinking about language"). Gives 5.6% extra credit, you don't have to pay attention in lecture but be there for pop quizzes.

The class was fairly easy. He gives out a ton of extra credit. Just show up and do the readings and you'll do fine. Overall, everyone, including Franks and the AI's, grew tired of the class, so enthusiasm was sparse. He is often incoherent in lectures and stumbles through the material rather quickly, which makes the class close to unbearable.

Really easy class and interesting topic. I really enjoyed the course.. I didn't work very hard and got an A+ without knowing anything about linguistics before the course. Nice guy... gives a lot of extra credit opportunities.

Had professor Franks for a topics class- I was in his honors discussion section which definitely helped. he made a point to get to know us personally. he offers tons of extra credit movies and the midterm and final questions come straight off the quizzes usually which is great. overall easy class.

The material in the class was difficult in the beginning, but he gives a lot of extra credit. Some topics were confusing, even after going to lecture. It's obvious that he is very smart, but there were times when his explanations were not clear at all. He posts all of his lecture slides after class, but they are very jumbled and repetitive.

Most people complained about the class (mainly about the material and how he didn't teach it well), but I found it easy. Material is like natural sciences, you have to study it until it clicks. Aside from the material, the class itself is easy. He gives SO much extra credit. Make sure you read the material, cuz the lectures aren't too informative.

He clearly knows what he's talking about, but he doesn't know how to teach! He expects you to understand what he knows without really explaining it. I felt lost, confused and completely frustrated! Unless you're a flippin' genius, do not take his class, or you will end up having to completely teach yourself.
