Class is easy if you go and keep up with the readings. Helps if you have a prior interest or it might seem boring; although he lectures straight through every class, I found it easy to pay attention.

Stowe provides a very useless outline that is unclear and hard to follow. He bounces around from topic to topic. Wasn't very helpful as a professor. Purposely docked students of points, just so they would get lower grades.

One of the most infuriating classes I've had in college so far. I got a 4.0 last semester and I've only gotten a perfect score twice in this class - both for attendance. Also, the rubric for the test is just terrible.

I'm a massive Civil War junkie and took his topics class on the subject. Very good prof, got a couple things wrong (his Stonewall Jackson story) but I still learned a lot! Good humor, and able to explain very contentious or confrontational subjects very well. Would take again. I did not notice any racial slurs so I don't know what that's about.

he knows his stuff and often adds funny comments into the lectures to keep the class's attention. But, he does not give As. On our grade distribution 0 people got A+s, 3 people got As, and 19 people got A-s. Only 3 people getting As in a 180 person class is a bit ridiculous.

Stowe is a pretty good guy. He knows his material, tells good stories, and is pretty laid back. He expects a lot of his students, but he doesn't make it impossible to get good grades. I've taken numerous classes with him and I have to say he's been my favorite teacher while at IU.

The class was harder than I expected. It was more like a 200 or 300 level. That being said it was not like torture, Prof. Stowe really knows what he is talking about. A little too much reading and the grading was tough, but nothing too hard to handle.

Dr. Stowe is excellent. The students who gave him poor reviewers are clueless. But what do you expect? Professor Stowe actually has standards. We should have to be able to write well to do well in a college course? Perish that thought!

Stowe is a badass. he knows his material and as some great stories. once he told us to read the declaration of independence **** becuase it sucks so bad. i was worried about his class but i ended up gettin a B becuase i studied hard.

I got B's and C's on the tests and somehow I ended up with a D+ Go figure. Tests are essay and if he does not like the way you write don't expect to get better than a C on the tests.
