He is not difficult to understand at all. He tries to crack jokes throughout to keep the lecture from being mundane. First exam is all review, some questions are straight conversion math. Get to know him and he will definitely help you out on the exams if you're having trouble. He drops one exam, including the final. Uses newest textbook version.

Hard to understand and not a great teacher, but a nice guy. Moves fast and covers a TON of material. Read the chapters & know the book, and you'll get an A. 4 Multiple choice tests, pretty straight forward but a few random questions, drops lowest test grade. Lab isn't bad at all.

Horrible professor. Can't understand him at all during lectures, goes way too fast thru ppts. Attempts to cover the entire textbook >1000pages in one semester, which is ridiculous, they should have micro 1 & 2 if they want to do that or, have a professor that can actually teach all of that material. Did well only bc I read 95% of the book, woo hoo!

The comments are pretty much right with this professor. He sits down at his laptop and lectures right off it. it is frustrating cause he uses another addition of the book so slides are in a different sequence than the newest addition. it's a good elective course just cause lab is good and exams are not completely unfair. but a lot is review.

Extremely confusing and terrible at communicating in english. He sits and talks for the whole lecture but does nothing that resembles teaching. Syllabus isnt helpful for figuring out readings. Exam 1 and 3 were as expected but 2 was really hard and arbitrary. Does end up curving at the end. Don't by the new textbook edition. He uses 11th.

Poor Communicator=Poor Teacher. Extremely knowledgeable on microbiology. he doesn't post his slides. He tests on random things that you wouldn't expect to be on the test. His lecture is very boring. Lab for this class is amazing compared to lecture.

Everyone should know that the lab section from this course is taken directly from Godrick's BI114. Same TF's teach it, same book, same material, same grading. I took 114 and this made my life a LOT easier when i took 311. just a nice, little known fact

His tests are random and he curves in a weird way. Basically just pay attention in lecture and do the reading. He asks really random questions on tests, especially ones dealing with pH.

He's very smart and knows his stuff ... he just has a hard time communicating it with others. Most of his stuff comes from the book. His lectures are incredibly boring and he can be hard to understand/follow. Poorly organized. Lab was enjoyable.

I disagree with previous posts. This guy really knows his stuff. Most of his test questions did come from lecture, but becuase hardly anyone comes to lecture, they wouldn't know it. If you can stay focused, his lectures are interesting most of the time. Helpful and enthusiastic about his field which is apparent if you just talk to him.

if you've made it this far, you've probably already seen most of the material in this class. Top of his field, but poor communicator = poor professor. Always seems thrown by questions, never explains clearly. Tests from book, but mostly superficial material.

I'd say don't bother. Lab is somewhat fun, lecture is fairly useless. Reading amount is foolish since only 1/5th the material assigned is ever touched in class. Read what he tells you to and you'll do fine. If you've taken biochem 2, piece of cake.

His lectures are very scattered and make very little sense. Sometimes he will show a diagram of a biological process but describe a different one that does not correspond with the picture. Learn it from the textbook!
