Twenty years out from my time at Richmond (all of that in educational fields), I still have profound respect and affection for him. As I remember, I took all of his courses, including a study-abroad and thesis course for Classical Civ. I have fond memories of sharing stories and cigarettes in his office. He's terrific if you get to know him.

Dr. Wheeler is a the model Classics professor. He is utterly absorbed in his discipline. He doesn't even notice he dresses like a homeless-man! Other than his fashion sense, Dr. Wheeler displays few faults to his students. If you are even modderately interested in the Classics take Dr. Wheeler.

Comment:
I thought Horace's Lyric Poetry was going to be at least a little bit of translation. all we did was talk about the poetic aspects of latin poetry. I was surprised, but not disappointed. Hes pretty easy and def. nuts, but very intelligent. Don't take him if you want to get 100% of your money's worth, but do if you want to broaden your horizons.

What can I say about Stu Wheel. If you're looking for a class where you actually learn a lot about the proposed topic, and become a better writer in the process, steer clear of him. However, if you love just shootin the s**t with a brilliant, if slightly nuts individual during what should be class time, then he's awesome. I love him

He's an easy professor, I got an A without much work. He wasted a month of class by having us watch a series that summarized a book we read. We didn't get to one of the books for the class. I could have taken him again for a class I wanted didn't. Take him if you don't mind wasting your time.

Dr. Wheeler is a complicated individual, and if you can get past his inital eccentricities, you'll like him. Unfortunately, not too many people do. He's a very smart guy, it's just that you have to work hard to appreciate him. I think he's probably worth the effort, however.

this was the worst class i've taken. wheeler fell asleep in class whenever we watched movies (which was often). nothing in the class made sense at all, and his tests were impossible because we had learned nothing.

A misogynist lunatic, one of the most narrow-minded professors I have ever encountered. A certifiable nutcase. Should have retired a long, long time ago.
