Comment:
She teaches history from a narrow viewpoint. She may be friendly, but is passive aggressive to those unused to her teaching style. She doesn't teach you in class with how to do well on her essays, and she focuses on a small part of history while neglecting major events (ex. Nullification Crisis). She's nice, but I learned more history in HS.

Comment:
If you want to study history dont take this teacher! If you see her lectures and speech clearly you can see she needs to retake history course. The way she perceive historical events is extremely biased and immature. So if you want to take a history course with an open minded and well balanced teacher, her course is not the one for you.

It was incredibly difficult to get an A in her class because of the way her grading scale is set up. Participation and the many pop quizzes she gives barely count for anything, despite the work that they require. Meanwhile, three arbitrarily graded essay tests are the most important grades. Her perspective on history was unique but not worth it.

Dr. Ashmore is a great professor. I believe this is one of the easiest Q classes on campus. That being said you HAVE to read the books she assigns, and you have to do good on the essays she gives you, but she does give more than enough time to prepare. She can be a picky grader though, so make sure to be as informative as possible.

Ashmore is one of my favorite teachers on campus. She goes into detail on topics that were boring in high school and somehow makes it interesting. Essay tests are tough, but she grades somewhat fairly. Going to lectures is a necessity, as is taking notes. Always read the homework, too. A's are hard to achieve, but I suspect they're possible.

It's been years since I've been in Dr. Ashmore's class but whilst grading papers (I'm now a history teacher myself) I was moved to write this while thinking about how unfair and arbitrary her grading was. No matter how hard I worked I could never break above a high B with her, despite almost always making A's on papers in every other class.

Comment:
Dr. Ashmore is really into immigration and minority history in the United States, and it shows in her lectures. She's really good at getting students to discern their own opinion about the past, and she offers stupendously stellar feedback to those who visit her office or email her. Really! However, she can be an arbitrary grader on essay exams.

I loved this class! Dr. Ashmore is a very knowledgable and caring professor. The class is tough but she offers you help during office hours. The course requires extensive reading and note taking, but if you manage your time wisely, then the course shouldn't be too rough. Keep in mind she uses reading quizzes to assess your knowledge.

Absolutely the best professor I have had here. I took her twice because I liked her so much. Extremely kind, and really cares about her students. The class is rather interesting as well. The exams are all essays, and the only thing is her grading can be inconsistent, but you will always do well if you put in the work. Wish she wasn't leaving. =(

One of the best teachers here at Oxford. Helps you with anything you need. A lot of writing but if you prepare for the test you will do fine. Lectures are very interesting most of the time and books assigned have a lot to do with the material taught in class. I've taken three classes with her and all of them have been great! A+++

Horrible teacher full of inaccurate information. Very opinionated. If she says one thing and you can prove she is wrong with facts it doesn't matter. Also, you always buy several books and end up not using most of them. I'm a history major and took 3 of her classes. Do yourself a favor and if you don't have to take her DON'T.

An absolutely wonderful professor. Clear in her lectures, cares for her students, and very helpful outside of class. I highly recommend her. Note: She does have high expectations for her students, which might be a problem for with limited history background and this class will have a considerable sum of reading, so plan your schedule accordingly.

I went into her class expecting to learn a lot and really and truly I learned nothing. She wasn't a good teacher and extremely bias. She doesn't go over the more important parts of history. Instead she goes over what she thinks is important. Also she specializes in Civil rights but she can't even teach it without an outline AND notes!

She is great professor and really does know what she is talking about. I have taken three different classes with her and every time have enjoyed them. One thing is that she is hard but the work is worth it in the end. She does follow the honor code to the T.
