The thing is, most professors in the Theatre department are AMAZING and Kattwinkel is just average. Her grading is very harsh, unless you happen to be one of her favorites. The comments she leaves on your papers seem very personal and are a bit hurtful. She will probably accuse you of not seeing or reading a play that you actually paid for.

Susan Kattwinkel is truly wonderful. Her class made me think and analyze in ways I never thought I could or would. I will absolutely take her again. I am always in awe of just how knowledgeable she is. She is an extremely tough grader, but she knows she is a tough grader and has a different grading scale because of it. She's difficult but worth it!

Susan Kattwinkel is the worst professor in the theatre department. She slaughters your papers, even if you put a weeks worth of work on it. Most of her lectures consist of her making weird noises and her saying um, yeah, so. If this class isn't required for you, DON'T take her. If it is, better find a friend so you can share each other's pain

Still not really sure how I feel about Kattwinkel. She seems like a nice person outside of class, but grading is kind of harsh. I think I'll pass with an A or B, but if you do take this course, be prepared to have your papers incredibly analyzed. The content is interesting. The class and assignments themselves, eh.

I was interested in theatre before this class and loved hearing about all of the history of different genres, but her harsh grading made it very hard to enjoy the class. Grades papers extremely harsh and will rip you a new one if your paper is not up to par. Quirky and loved her as a person, but very hard as a teacher!

Do NOT take this class if you expect an easy class to get rid of a humanities credit. She grades extremely hard and is often unclear with her feedback. She is very smart and yes, the class is interesting, but there is a ton of work and just take the fact that most likely your opinions will be wrong in the eyes of this doctorate.

Amazing class. She is hard but fair. One of the hardest classes in the major. Susan is a wonderful professor. Her intense knowledge of theatre history makes you want to not disappoint her. I learned much more than my grade reflected. Very glad I took this course with her.

Smartest and best teacher I've had! I'm lazy, but she made the class so interesting, I actually WANTED to work. Efficient professor and funny, nice, great person. Will really listen if the class tells her she's giving too much work. Gives easy, yet frequent, quizzes and makes very helpful study guides for tests.

Her class is not as easy as you would think...it is hard!! If you dont like to read, I wouldnt recommend it...you practically read and are quizzed on a different play every class. She is a nice woman but she is difficult...I went in thinking it was a "gimme class" and it was my hardest class that semester :(

Prof Kattwinkel is interesting. I took her class for humanity's credit. She knows A LOT and expects you to be interested. If you have a good attitude about her class you'll like it. You have to love her for her weirdness. NOT AN EASY A. I worked my butt off and barely got an A.

You MUST take her class seriously. Read all plays assigned! Pop Quizes! Hard grader! She will check your papers before they are do and gives you a chance to rewrite them if not up to par. Get organized. She knows a whole lot! She's written books. Is a great and challenging prof. Make the best of her class. I enjoyed it and learned a lot!

Very dissapointing. Grading not at all clear: no feedback concerning what it takes to succeed. Moody and often accusatory to her students (frequently insinuated that we hadn't done the reading, in what I thought was a rude and standoffish manner). No help outside of class. Not recommended.
