Dr. McCaffray is such a good professor. This class is very challenging, lots of writing and 3 tests. Goes off a 100 point scale. 900 A, 800B and so on. She knows literally anything and is good presenting information. She tries to make the class interesting cracking jokes sometimes. You can get a good grade if you put in effort and ALOT OF WORK

There is very little she can do to make the material she teaches interesting. She has an exceedingly dry delivery and uses powerpoints so sparse with info that they might as well not exist. Also, your final grade is weighted by designated "discussion days," wherein one must contend with a handful of students who out-talk everyone else. Ineffective.

Prof McCaffray is an incredible history teacher. If you do not like history you may not seem as interested as a history major. She knew so much about her lectures and barly used the powerpoint. She graded pretty harsh for a 100 level class and if you take her 102 class be ready to write essays. She does not test prep well either. very smart.

Her tests and papers are graded too harshly for a 100 level course. She is very redundant and doesn't seem to expand on any topics in her lectures.

Professor McCaffray was my favorite professor last semester. For Western Civ II, every class was a lecture. My friends thought she was boring, but, coming from someone who is interested in history, I found it interesting. You're gonna have to put in work to get the A, but she is a great teacher. She does a great job of presenting the material.

McCaffray is so talented at teaching history. If you go to class, pay attention, and take good notes tests become much easier. I never used the book since I followed her lectures so well. The tests are all short answer and essay style which can be tricky. She also assigned two long papers on books and two short writings. I absolutely loved her!!!

Dr. McCaffray is easily one of the best, if not THE best teachers I have ever had. She really has a gift for explaining history in a way that shows you why things happened. I have learned more from just showing up to her class than I have pulling all nighters studying for others. Not easy, several papers/writing assignments, but so worth it.

Before Dr. McCaffray I despised history but her passion for it and her willingness to help made it enjoyable. There is a lot of writing for this class but it is very easy to get A's if you prepare well, same for the tests. I advise going to class though it's not mandatory but overall she is a sweet lady with a great class.

Dr. McCaffray is amazing. Before taking her class I loathed history, now I want to take more history classes. Attendance is not mandatory but GO to class because her tests are based strictly off of lectures.

Dr. McCaffray was my favorite professor so far at UNCW. I am not a history person, but her class made me very engaged. From the minute she began lecturing to the end of class I was enthralled in her lectures. She doesn't have an attendance policy and provided several extra credit opportunities.

Dr. McCaffray is very well versed in History and seems like she would be tough but not if you do the work. Read and always make sure you speak up on discussion days,it's helps a lot, trust me. Always willing to point a student in the right direction with their paper. Great teacher!

Dr. McCaffrey is awesome! She is such a good lecturer and listening to her talk for an hour is never a dull experience. Western Civilization isn't her main focus, but she knows so much and has such great insight. Her papers are a little roughly graded and the tests are pretty difficult but her class is doable. She's great overall!

Dr. McC is great! Hst 290 is a hard class to begin with but she makes it as easy as she can. She is willing to help you in anyway and does not require too much work except on the paper which you have to do in any 290 class. Be prepared to read and discuss!

Dr. McCaffray was the most interesting history teacher I have ever had. There were two papers, two outlines, two other assignments, and 3 tests. If you want an easy A you shouldn't take this class but McCaffray's class will make you want to switch to a history major. You have to work hard for that A though!

She's amazing! Best professor I've ever had. She's by no means an easy professor; don't take her class if you're looking for an easy A. You will work for the grade you get. But you'll learn a lot and probably see history in a new way. Her lectures are clear, and she's very approachable if you need help! Take her class!

I had McCaffray for The Age of Napoleon. Based on this class, I would not recommend taking McCaffray for anything other than a history class focused solely on Russia. When lecturing on topics outside of Russia, McCaffray struggled with putting together a coherent lecture. She often exposes students to "death by powerpoint."

Great professor, interesting and very enjoyable lectures. She is clearly a very intelligent woman who knows how to keep her lectures informative and interesting. Class involves a lot of hard work, including two very long and important papers, but put in the time and effort because she is a professor worth learning from.
