Material is very difficult to grasp. hard to follow along because she expects you to have prior knowledge of asian history. Lectures are hard to follow along with. Class is easy to get by without doing the assigned reading. Very open to help. Midterm, Final, and Final Paper. Final and midterm take FOREVER to prepare for Easy B if you work hard!

modern asian history class: teacher is very smart in this subject. lectures are really fast so must pay close attention. lectures are also very unorgaznied and doesnt follow the outline she creates. TONS of reading to do if you want to understand material. midterm consists of 2 essay quetsions & 4 IDs. same thing with final. one book review paper.

Midterm, final, and one book review paper. Simple class. She does go on alot of tangents and can get carried away. If you cant follow along, just ask her or look at her outlines/handouts. Dont need to read too much of the book. Not bad of a professor

She knows a lot about Asian History, but has so much personal interest that she trys too hard when teaching. She goes off talking about random topics A LOT. Her class is easy is you don't want a ton of work, but she treats the paper as if this were an upper division course. watch out for frequent "ummms" and pauses

She's nice though a little bitter at times. She really knows what she's talking about but she talks fast and only in lecture style. sometimes slideshow the work is somewhat complicated and she goes off on a lot of tangents. she is hard to follow sometimes. the lectures are interesting and she taught me a lot. no homework just 2 tests

Reallly energetic, smart, & interesting. Does go off on tangents but keeps it relevant. If you'd like to get a better understanding of the world and how things are shaped accordingly take the class. Definitely one of the better teachers I have had at LMU.

class is always lecture. midterm, final and paper. the paper really has nothing to do with what you learn in class. goes off on tangents and likes to talk about what interests her. shes really into it, but if you're not interested in the material its pretty boring.

Preaching to the students about what she thinks. She has a chip on her shoulder and doesn't like people that don't agree with her. Boring and the paper has nothing to do with history and is graded more like an English essay.

She loves to stand on her soap box and preach about how america messed up Asia for the frist three weeks of class the same lecture over and over. Not to mention if you disrupt the class she will throw you out,i.e. phones ringing, talking, sleeping, she acts like it is jr. high, do not take this clas

Great teacher if you're interested in the material; she'll share the joy with you. Assigns a LOT of reading (most of it you can get by without reading.. but.. some of it..). Paper at the end of her classes usually.

O'Brien's very energetic, but more often than not she goes off on looooong tangents. If you take good notes and study the outlines she gives out, the readings aren't even necessary for a good grade.

Suzanne O'brien is a fresh out of grad school and boy does it show. She's really enthusiastic about the class yet she gets dissapointed when her students don't share the same enthusiasm. Her lectures often go off on tangents . . .

The class was interesting cuz she's really passionate about the work, but having a 75 minute lecture just killed me. There were a lot of journals, but it wasn't hard to write, and only one big paper. You get study guides for midterm and final.

She loves what she does so much it's hard to not like the class (and I loved it). Her early classes were a pain. If you make the effort and are really interested in asian history, this class is for you.
