Levy's an adorable old Egyptian man with a French accent. I enjoyed the content of the class, and although truthfully I wasn't always engaged during his lectures, I think that's a pretty standard thing to find with professors. He really likes Edgar Allen Poe. I disagree with most of these comments, I'd take a class from him again.

Completely worthless as a professor! Lectures were really boring and even though the material was interesting sometimes, he would make it uninteresting during lecture. Has some weird accent thats really hard to understand. Class isn't very difficult if you go to section but I would recommend a different teacher for the course

Interesting topics, but he wasn't very good at explaining things. Go to your sections and you'll get good grades on the essays.

A nice guy indeed. I liked his sense of humor and lectures were just average at best! I did enjoy his class and wish him well.

Do what you're asked to and show up most of the time and you'll do fine. Lectures put people to sleep, but they don't turn out to be too important for tests. Really depends on your TA. One of the novels was a bore.

Horrible teacher. Class was much worse than described. Lectures were pointless unless you sit in the first row (and even then you gotta watch out for the spit!) Takes attendance, hard to understand, can't write, doesn't have any participation from class during lecture at all. Very boring. Readings were very boring too. Avoid if possible.

Although he was unclear sometimes, all you had to do was ask him and he made all the directions very clear. The class was interesting, and he's a nice guy!

Kind of a strange class. He's not entirely clear on what he wants the student to do and there's not that many opportunities for graded work in the class. He's very philosophical, so if you cater to that in his classes he will respond well.

Terrible, horrible class. The lectures were so bad that I stopped going (even though attendance is mandatory and worth 15% of the grade) its such a complete waste of time, its just not worth going. He makes no sense at all. Avoid his classes if possible.

he is a really nice guy. sure he is really french and has an accent, but he is really helpful and the readings ARE AMAZING. if you love good lit, take his classes. I took another**** class with him and though he is unorganized, i feel as if you just have to get him to understand what he is saying.

I hate this man with a passion. Every lecture is horrible and the man has no concept of what teaching is. Attendance is mandatory and his lectures are long and pointless. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH LEVY!!!!

He makes little to no sense in his lecture. He mumbles quite a lot and makes opinionated points which makes it hard to write about how you interpret the readings yourself. The reading is poorly organized, you will find that some days you have no reading and then other days you'll be assigned to read a doozy in little to no time. He also takes role.

Ok, this class made me reconsider my choice as a Lit Major. Seriously, I changed it. The lectures make no sense; I don't even take notes anymore. I just go because he takes attendence. He's very unorganized and I'm still really not sure what the point of the class is. It's pretty easy though, just pointless. And boring.

horrible class. you do NOT know what the hell is going on, and when you write your test essays, all you can do is reiterate info from lectures. this obviously is unacceptable, since i got a C for doing all the reading and going to all the lectures. avoid class if possible.
