This seems like a recent thing, but her tests have gotten harder than previous years. They sort of match up with lecture but not with homework (quizzes are like timed, in-class homeworks). The book is necessary but still written by her so fairly confusing and monotonous. My class had a quiz where the mean was 50 and she blamed the students!

She offered me a lot of information and help when I needed it. I would definitely recommend this one. Please take her. It's just a show up and pass.

She makes her tests open book, so that you are inclined to buy her book. Her lectures are long, boring, and exactly like the book. She practically reads her book to you. There is homework every week, which are basically not that useful since the tests are topics not yet covered by your homework. The class isn't that bad.

Class is tedious. Explanations are drawn out and often full of (dull) anecdotes that are as long as the actual course information. Attending class is a must because her explanations are not clear (and the whole 9yards of anecdotes are needed to make sense of them.)Tests are not difficult if effort has been made to study her methods specifically

if you really pay attention to her lecture, actually it is interesting. Linguistic is kind of hard to learn, but her explanation is very clear. 2 Quiz, 5 Homework and 1 final, all OPEN BOOK.

Worst class ever. She basically goes over the reading which she assigns you to do the reading. Very boring. 5 Assignments and 1 paper that is 5-7 pages. I wouldn't take any of her classes again. So dreadful.

I dont think it's a hard class at all. I got 70 on two of my assignments, and I still got A eventually. 2 quizzes, 4 or 5 homework assignments, one final, and a extra credit assignment. It's a good class for your GPA~

It was hard to focus in class and the material given in the textbook is very similar to the lecture slides. The textbook is a great usage to refer back during the quizzes and exam. Homework assignments and extra credit helps boost your grades. TA's can not tell you the answers but they will tell you where to look in the textbook.

The lecture is very boring and attendance is not mandatory. The lecture notes are very helpful and it summarize the book so you don't need the book unless you wanted to understand more. ATTEND the discussion they are very helpful. And just do your HW and you will pass easily

Very boring lecturer. Never paid attention in class and still passed. Tests are open book & notes. Most of your grade is based on homework. Take advantage of the TAs and discussion to help with the homework. I made sure my TA went through every homework problem so I got a high score. Easy class to pass and easy GE class. It's just not interesting.

I don't see how this is an easy class. You either get nearly 100% or ~50% for the assignments, which is why everyone has a C. She has a very monotone voice and snaps at people talking during class. She reads directly off the ppts, which is no help. The only reason people survive is by talking to their TA or copying off the stranger next to you.

I love Teresa and her husky voice. She is like the crazy old lady down the street that sounds like she smokes 2 packs of cigs a day. You can sleep through every lecture, the class is all homework and quizzes which are open book. All I did was watch Youtube all day and count the people falling asleep. Make sure to go to office hours with Teresa ;)

If you're just looking for an easy A, you're in the right place. The tests are open book and open note, and the homework takes about five minutes per week. All you need to do is show up to lecture and you'll get an A. Her lectures aren't the most interesting, but the subject is.

I've had Griffith for 3 classes, this one Ling 3 and Ling 20. Is her class difficult yes, BUT she is quite thorough in her explanations, she's always willing to answer questions (especially during office hours but the lectures as well) and she's a pretty lenient grader. I will say her upper div. classes are better than lower.

This class is NOT an easy A. It is an easy B. For an A you need to put some effort in. That said, it's a thousand times easier than calculus or any other math class you might take. I hated this class. It's incredibly boring. Make sure you stay on top of things.

Loved her! If you actually pay attention to what she says in lecture, the material will make sense. Even if you don't go to lecture, she posts her powerpoint slides online, so you should be fine. All tests are open book/note, including the final. Weekly hw assignments are short and manageable. Great option for GE since it counts as math!!

One of the worst professors I have taken at UCI. Extremely unhelpful and nearly incomprehensible in her lectures. And don't bother turning to the book for clarity, because she wrote it. So, if you dont understand her teaching style you are SOL. There's a reason no one minors in Linguistics anymore at UCI, and she is why.

All the quizzes and the final are open-book, open-note. They don't even need to be handwritten notes--you can simply print out lecture slides. Just do the homework and pay a little bit of attention in lecture, and you should do just fine! I'm not a "math person", and this was a super easy math GE.
