This is not a class that you're going to get an easy A in. You need to spend time reading and put time into studying (as you should in any class.) If you take notes well, and put in effort, you'll be fine. Prof. Burden is very responsive and wants you to do well.

This course could have been an online course. We didn't do any work in class. He didn't ask for class participation. All the test were online. We didn't have an assigned book but he gave us too much material to read for each test. A waste of an hour and 15 minutes. The instructor was very rude to particular people in our class. Very condescending

Took his online class and it was the worst mistake of my life. His test are ridiculously specific and there is no way to pass them without using notes. Oh, and notes are not allowed on test. He does not give feedback or give any second chances. I spent literally hours on his quizzes and still manage to fail. you are able to use the text on the quiz

Comment:

This class is BRUTAL. Issue Debates are interesting but the actual lessons are dry, long, and dull. The exams are insanely specific and riddled with grammatical errors. Even if you pay close attention to the lessons and take detailed notes it's nearly impossible to do well. I'm a 4.0 student and I'll be lucky to scrape by with a B. Avoid him.

Took the online course. Grades were only quiz/exams. He writes the questions himself and sometimes the typos alone make them impossible to answer. Very difficult to get through. Had to know a lot of information at once then hope you were understanding what he was trying to ask. No other assignments even though the syllabus said there would be.

This course is not difficult at all. 4 Test and 4 quizzes all taken online. Buy the handbook, the textbook is not really needed. Also, Burden allows you to send in revised answers to each quiz and test within a reasonable amount time. Lectures can drag a bit if you have no interest in the topic, but nonetheless this class satisfies two gen eds.

Good lectures and covers most of the material. But doesn't cover all and it isn't in the textbook either. In fact he doesn't use the textbook at all. There is a study guide outline, that is way more helpful.

Online intro to religions is miserable. Avoid Burden at all costs. There are an incredible number typos in his online lessons. Horribly organized. And if you are to reach out to him, you will likely to hear back from a sour and rude man. Impossible to get a good score. I'd give anything to not have taken HUM216. GPA ruiner. Who does he think he is?

He is an awesome man who does follow his outlines well. If you do not pass his class it is your own fault because he does tel you what to study and it isn't much. You really do not need the text book but get it just in case. Go to class because he does ask question from his lecture. He only gives four exams as grades so you better study up.

Interesting information. Horribly structured online course. 50+ pages of reading per week with no lecture or discussion. Short test windows; typos abound on Blackboard. Puts one open-ended question per test so you have to wait forever for grades (sometimes had to type 'true' into a box).

I will say that this class is very interesting however I would not reccomend taking the Intro to world religions class online. The work load for this class is very intense- lots of reading and students are expected to know a ton of information for each exam. Generally I am a B+ to A student and I bareley pulled off a C- in this class.

Prof Burden makes things clear to you. If you go to class and do what he says, you will make a good grade. You can not however, if you don't read what you are told, study etc. Who expects to not work for a good grade at a university? Prof Burden was always kind to me, and seemed genuinely caring of my education. I took several of his classes.

I took his New Testament class and it was wonderful. He works with you, and despite these other responses stating that his study guide were useless, I can say for a fact they were perfect. The only reason I got a B+ is because I'm lazy and didn't study till the day off the tests. I'm taking him again.

DO NOT take this class. Or any class with his as the professor. Tests were online and ti was still impossible to get a good score. Class is extremely boring and no help at all. Tests were extremely difficult to understand. I repeat, DO NOT take this class. It is literally a wast of money and will hurt your GPA.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I took this class online as a HUM requirement. I have never been so frustrated with a class before. He's study guides are useless and his tests are impossible. I studied for hours and never got a satisfying grade. Extremely difficult to understand.

Definitely a BURDEN to take this class. I got an awful grade even though I studied almost day and night. I read every chapter, TWICE, and ALL of the lecture notes and study guides, and it was just an awful experience. DO NOT recommend taking this class.

The study guide given for tests was NOT helpful at all. It was an awful class. I do not recommend taking this professor if you can avoid it. If you can't, study TONS and you might get a good grade. I studied constantly and barely passed this class.

Comment:

Knows what he is talking about and really nice...for the most part. Online tests and quizzes. Wrote his own book, which helps. Go to class and be sure to take notes. He talks pretty monotone, so don't take it in the morning unless you want to fall asleep. Unorganized in the way he talks, but easy to understand.
