Horrible instructor, and overall very inappropriate. He would openly try to flirt with this one attractive girl in the class and made everyone uncomfortable. His grading criteria is also insane and going in to talk with him during office hours is of little help. He does not offer any sort of advice and doesn't review your work. AVOID AVOID AVOID!

He doesn't believe in giving feedback on papers, and he also doesn't annotate. I got a "C-" on my first paper and when I asked why he responded "I just felt you could do more, but i really enjoyed it!" The rest of my papers went about the same. I've gotten A's in all my other english classes. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Meyers is a really kind, genial teacher. Class was Brit Lit II. 3 5-page essays were the primary determinants of your grade- but they all had to have 3 separate drafts including the draft turned in. If you follow the instructions he gives on how to write the paper, you'll likely get an A. Midterm worth less than the essays, final worth a bit more.

Ter Bear is a diamond in the rough. This gem of a professor and human uses a reasonable amount of textbook, but you'll never be overwhelmed by The Meyers' assignments. His lectures are fairly interesting as well. Most importantly, he is truly a gentleman and a scholar.

Terry is, and will always be, the man. I had taken Brit Lit 2 with him my freshmen year, and while his Victorian Age class is very similar to that, it offers plenty of other authors and texts. Engaging discussions, helpful office hours, open-ended papers that he grades very fairly. What else can I say? Definitely take a class with him.

He is definitely the knowledgable grandfather type, yes! The class is basically all discussion/seminars. It's encouraged that you go to him before you write your paper so you know what he's looking for. Overall he's a really great professor!

Lots of reading (but manageable) , especially poetry. Some of it is interesting, some of it is not. Meyers lectures his opinion and generally rebukes yours. I was uninspired to do my own analysis on pieces because I knew that he would tell me what was "right". Fairly open-ended essay topics and a fair grader. A tolerable class overall.

Knew his stuff, but most times I felt uninspired to participate in class. Paper topics were extremely open-ended with no guidelines and then graded fairly but on the tough side

Definitely a grandfather type, adorable, sweet, extremely charming. As for teaching... he clearly knows his stuff, but has a really unorganized lecture style. Forget taking notes. Looking back, most of my notes consist of marginalia: "Meyers started to ramble again, re-read this section because clearly it's important, God knows why"

I liked his class a lot. Meyers was adorable and said "Hunky Dory" all the time. He's like a knowledgeable grandfather. His discussions are interesting, but you definitely need to be well rested to enjoy them. He threatens pop quizzes, but we never got one. Exams are fair. However, he likes a specific writing style and will mark down accordingly.

Professor Meyers is one of the nicest and most helpful professors you will ever find. He's really passionate about the works you read in class, and he's always around if you want some guidance on papers or in class. The works you read are pretty interesting and good for the most part. If you enjoy English discussion, you will enjoy this class.

Comment:
Only take a class with Professor Meyers if you can keep yourself motivated. He's a nice man, and clearly knowledgeable, but the lectures are dusty-dry and there's no accountability on the readings until you get to the final. Papers are open-ended, but he requires proof of drafting. Grading is reasonable; material is fun; exams are lengthy but fair.

Decidedly mediocre. Class is mostly lecture, with a little discussion. He does love poetry, but that makes him able to explain it pretty well. Doesn't require attendance so I end up not going a lot. Grading seems fair to me.

Professor Meyers is very nice and very enthusiastic about the subject, but I would not recommend this class. He is a very tough grader. Most of the class was about 18th century of romantic poetry, so if you don't like poetry do not take the class.

Meyers is a really nice guy. That being said, he is also a terrible teacher. The lectures WILL put you to sleep if you bother coming to class at all. His grading is out of control! He has very different expectations than any other teacher I have encountered at W&M. Interesting material, but do not take any classes with him. Ever.

Was upset reading some of these ratings. Meyers is NOT a boring lecturer unless you hate poetry. Class discussion possible if YOU are willing to speak up, he does ask questions to mix it up. NOT a hard grader, he gives extensions and will offer suggestions on topics and drafts. ENTHUSIASTIC, helpful, even if you inquire outside course's topics.

Boring lecturer, hard grader. I thought I nailed the midterm, but I got a B- instead. Unless you're planning on being an English major, don't take him. Even if you are planning on being an English major, try to take the class with someone else.

Do you like Victorian Poetry? Do you like summarizing it at the speed of light? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you will love Prof Meyers. Nice man, boring lecturer, seems nervous, usually extends paper deadlines for the whole class
