Prof Powers is a really nice guy, and he seems like a real sweetheart. However, his class is made up of 4 tests and an optional final (which is cumulative). The class is huge and made up of him reading off power-points. It's not necessarily hard its just each test is about 4 Power Point presentations which are like 40+ slides each.

You must be able to interpret all the information into examples in order to pass his tests! I suggest you don't wait till last minute to study for his exams because there is a lot to remember and very specific information on the tests. He offers extra credit that is super easy and as long as you show up and take notes you will do fine.

Very soft spoken guy. Really enthusiastic about the material and knows his stuff. Most exam questions are based off of examples rather than just definition and knowledge so they can be quite difficult, especially if you don't pay attention and study hard enough. He does let you take an optional final and takes the best 4 out of 5 exams for grading

Takes the best 4 out of 5 exams. Focus more on actual examples than definitions. He really engages you in the lectures and doesn't just give us a plain lecture. No homework, just the research requirement, extra credit, and definitely keep up with reading. I loved this class!

He's a great guy to be learning from, really knows his stuff and makes it easy to understand. lets you drop the lowest of the 4 tests so if you fail this class you clearly weren't ready for college

Lectures are boring even though he sometimes yells and walks around the room. If you took a psych class before don't bother coming to class just review his power points. Do not buy or rent the book it is a waste of time reading and money. There are a total of 5 exams including the final and he only counts 4 out of the 5 exams.

Dr. Powers would clearly be better in a non lecture setting, He is a really nice man who is passionate about his class but is a mess in front of 200 students at once. For a 101 class the tests were very difficult, and very hypothetical to his beliefs. I'd recommend him in a smaller class setting.

Prof. Powers is an ok guy but as a professor his lectures are extremely boring and mind numbing. He also likes to give extremely unnecessary sarcastic answers to emails when you ask him a question. Doesn't take attendance but if you miss the class you miss a lot of info.

Dr Powers is a great professor. The class was interesting because he makes you think about all the philosophical questions about personality, free will, etc There were 2 short papers and 3 multiple choice tests. very easy to do good if you go to class.

I transferred here this semester. Prof. Powers has become my favorite teacher so far in my college experience (I have been in college for 2 years), I get it when he explains things, He has a great way of putting things, providing examples to further my understanding of all the concepts. Truly a great teacher. Highly recommended.

His exams are ridiculous. You spend DAYS studying, if you go to class, yet cannot get an A. His studyguides are only the headings of his slides, and his questions on test are worded so horribly. Even if you take amazing notes, if you do not memorize EVERY detail and sentence, forget an A. Plus he is condescending and picks favorites. DON'T TAKE

Amazing professor! He doesn't coddle his students (nor should he) but he's dedicated, interesting and cares about his students. One of the best professors ever. He wants you to actually learn and makes the effort to make the material interesting.

I was very turned off by this professor's inability to properly assess the class (exams were stupid hard for an INTRODUCTORY class). Not every student has the intention of pursuing psychology beyond graduation. Having said that, the one time I approached him for extra help (and the last time, trust me) his condescending attitude was not helpful.

Prof. Powers is a good professor. He keeps his lectures interesting. Exams are a bit tricky, especially for 101-level course. You have to have a huge grasp on the material to get an A. If you're willing to put in the study time and attend class, you should be fine.
