Not my favorite class. I realized that there is more to philosophy than just philosophers. Not the best teacher. Great guy not so good of a teacher. His lectures are pretty confusing. I wouldn't miss class if I were you.

Simply the best professor I have ever had; this includes study in Erope and at the UniVersity of Chicago. His knowledge of philosophy is profound and his ability to impart even the most complex ideas is humbling. Simply superB.

He's now an adjunct at Portland State (Sorry Bradley students). Great guy and good at discourse. The concepts he teaches may be a bit above the freshman level which this class pertains too. His grading scale is a bit out-of-the-ordinary but hey, he's been doing this forever and knows his stuff. Let the old man do what he wants.

The man KNOWS philosophy! I'm glad I had him before he retired. I'd put his class among the top 5 I took while at Bradley!

despite being slightly chauvinistic and closed minded, this guy really makes you think. recommended for those who want to get something out of class. he has great intentions and is always willing to argue. all around great guy. helpful

Alright, this guy is a crazy ass old dude.. He knows what he's talking about and he serves hot chocolate and hot cider in class. Thats a plus, but he has a crazy ass grading scale that no one likes. 93-100, 92-85, and so on. The reason he serves refreshments in his class is because he is bring as hell. My advice steer clear of this old dude......

I absolutely love this class so much because Professor Scharle makes everything interesting. He uses cartoons to demonstrate concepts and some of the things he says are just so hilarious. Taking his class this semester as an AEP freshman has influenced me to become a philosophy minor. It really sucks he's retiring!

AWESOME professor, did not like other students comments about being christian because some christians are close minded jerks, I am christian but willing to hear both sides of an argument. Scharle def. expresses both sides but never favors one over the other. He will be missed when he leaves this semester.

If you have any sort of concervative values, don't take this class. If you are a Christian don't take this class. He is the worst ever. He hates America and is out to destroy it. If you beleive otherwise he won't let you talk. all of his tests are based on his opinion.

He just rants.....the entire time. Worthless class, unless you do all the work outside of class. His lectures are funny, but never on topic. He rambles and doesn't teach an iota of useful information. If you want to learn ethics....take someone else.

I think he thinks he is a better professor than he actually is. He's a nice old man but needs to keep up with the times. The only reason I went to class is because he takes attendance.

I was really dreading this class, having put it off until my senior year, but Dr. Scharle really made the time spent learning Philosophy seem worthwhile. Providing hot chocolate to the class may have had something to do with that, but he really comes across as a man who loves his work. Recommended.

Although his grading scale sucks and his grading methods are a little strange, he's a good professor. He knows his subject well, gives you a study guide that you can use on the exam and there isn't a final. It's hard to get anything below a C.

He is really tough in grading - won't give you an A unless you EXACTLY get 92.5%. Lectures are funny and he provides coffee so that you can stay awake. Exams were easy, but he needs to be flexible in grading.
