Theresa is an intelligent, remarkable woman, and the most helpful professor in the program. She demands a lot from her students, but gives back invaluable guidance and encouragement. She is committed to her field, organized, and is the best resource Art History majors have in regard to their professional success.

She is BY FAR the program's most valuable professor. Anyone interested in the field should recognize this. If you're serious about a career as an art historian you will take classes with this amazing woman. If you're not, don't, because she'll know. She's an invaluable resource for those committed and will connect you to the best opportunities.

Comment:
Refusing to see "new" art forms as being valid, she focuses solely on figurative statue work, typically with antiquated battle themes, in my US Public Art seminar. She refuses to keep an open mind and her word is law. Grading is unfair and lectures are boring.

Comment:
For our writing assignment, most students received C's and D's. She stresses that success comes from following directions, yet ignores our efforts to be meticulous and thorough when grading. Make-ups are not allowed, and the papers are worth 25% of our final grades. Expectations change on a daily basis, and her lectures are disorganized and boring.

This class is a weed out for those who refuse to conform to the ideology of the professor. Unfortunately the dated material and ineffective constructive criticism border on the offensive and do little to enhance learning in a supportive and positive manner

She says she demands the best out of her students, but does very little to help or encourage them to reach her expectations. Her grading is extremely inconsistant, from student to student and paper to paper. Her discussions of her own personal worth seem to cloud her ability to genuinely engage with her students.

Hard, demanding teacher who expects everything done her way. Grades are all over the map she will mark off something on one students paper wrong and count it right on another. Obsessed with discussing her education and professional standing

Her discussions of her personal life are an obstacle in the learning process. The way she addresses students can be very condescending and belittling. Her expectations can be unclear and contradictory.

Comment:
Theresa Leininger-Miller is an extremely controlling teacher. Her grading is mostly based upon you doing what she expects and using her personal phrasing on tests. There seems to be a de-emphasis on actual comprehension. The required readings and overall course-load are really heavy, although sometimes quite interesting.

Shares way too much personal information. Incredibly full of herself. Expects you to write in her style. If you don't accept her writing style and beliefs you will not do well in her class.

Theresa is an art historian extrodinaire. She pushes every one in the class to understand the cultural impacts from the images in the lecture/book and not just the surface information we see. You must have an opinion you feel comfortable enough backing up during lecture, she is a debater but honest and approachable.

Exams are very easy & up front. She makes you memorize tons of images when you only really need to know 15. Like someone else has said, be prepared to work your ass off without any real reward. She's opinionated and doesn't care about anyone else's opinion. This class made me hate 19th cent. art and I loved it before.

I had several classes with Theresa, and while i enjoyed the lectures, readings and discussions, she proved to be very inconsistent with grading. Expect to work your butt off with no major reward. Expect not to be liked based on your opinions. I still recommend taking her classes, but just be forewarned.
