Comment:
Dr. Auxter is one of the best, if not the best professor in the entire Philosophy department. He is extremely knowledgeable about the material and is extremely enthusiastic when sharing it with his students. He is very kind and caring, and he wants his students to understand what he's teaching, as opposed to simply teaching once then moving on. A+

Comment:
Prof. Auxter spends the first half of class summarizing the readings, and the second half talking about his interpretation of them, especially how they relate to his ideals. While it's engaging in the beginning, I don't feel like I actually learned much. The three papers were easy, but I wish that the class had centered around discussion.

Comment:
Prof. Auxter is very passionate about his field. For Intro to Philosophy he gives about 5 essay exams, each one page front and back and they're extremely easy to get an A in as long as you listen and regurgitate the information he gives during lecture. However, he's extremely biased, very liberal, and gets side tracked during lecture very easily.

Professor Auxter is great. Having taken two courses now with him I can confidently say that if you show up, pay attention to his lectures, and read the material you will do well. The reading isn't too heavy and is interesting. He's an interesting guy with a lot of funny stories. You won't mind when he gets off topic, that's the best part.

Fantastic kind professor, took him for a seminar on Mariategui (basically seminar on socialist philosophy) and I'm a liberal. Basically disagreed with him in everything but his lectures were interesting you learn a lot and he is tolerant of other views. Easy grader friend and I got an A and attendance wasn't mandatory.

Veyr vague with what he wants out of the essay exams and papers but makes up for it in his grading. Interesting guy, cares about the subject. Three hour blocks can be tough to get through but the material is interesting.

super chill class. I only showed up maybe three times in the semester even though attendance is required and a sheet is passed around(because theres no room for it on the grading scale). so don't worry about attending class, I think the sheet is just a scare factor. exams are simple. i studied the day of without reading the books and got an A

I took Dr. Auxter for both Existentialism and Ethics of Com. I got an A in both; he has an interesting take on Western morality (re:ethics of com.) If you are a philosophy major this will definitely be your "easy" philosophy class. :) Deepened my appreciation of Western phil. Learned about African and Latin American phil. Highly recommended.

He's a cool guy with very interesting perspectives and I definitely enjoyed listening to him lecture and felt as though I learned a lot and changed my perspective. The only qualm I have is that the class is not very structured at all. There are not clear guidelines for any of the assignments, which can be somewhat stressful, but you can get an A.

Really cool guy, loves what he does and is super passionate about the subject. Tests are all in-class essays and one 1000 word essay out of class. Got an A when I was expecting to receive a B. His TA was a maniac but can't hold that against him. Definitely take it if you're interested in the topic.

You have to read and take notes and follow along in order to have even minimal understanding of the topics covered in this course, but you will feel your mind expanding during every lecture and it will make you just want to pick his brain. Definitely recommended.

Enjoyed the lectures. Let's you know the questions that are going to be on the tests and final roughly a week beforehand. Don't have to read all of the book for most of the books he assigns. Likes to let you make a judgment about the topics covered in your essays. Good at getting into the mind of the philosopher he's discussing.

Dr Auxter goes a little off topic sometimes but knows the books and authors inside and out. The whole class is reading philosophers and essay exams about their work. Very relaxed guy, not too hard on grading and gives a very clear outline of what he's looking for in essays.

Awesome professor! Auxter is a real professor and is determined to make you THINK rather than grade your memory. If it was up to him, universities wouldn't even grade their students! Take him if you actually want to learn something!

Very interesting lectures but soon repeats himself over and over again during the semester. Knows existentialism inside and out. Charming stories about his kids. My friend was a philosophy major, never once read for class, and made an A final grade. This was my 1st phils., read every text, made a "90" on every essay exam, and made a B+ final grade.
