He's a really strange guy but after the first few classes you get used to it. Attendance is not mandatory but I would suggest that you not miss any classes because the exams are straight from the lectures and are worded exactly how he speaks. The book helps for reference purposes. Sometimes he's really hard to understand but just take good notes

Useless is an understatement. This man talks incomprehensibly into the board. If a student has a question about one of his mumblings he will not see the raised hand because he's not looking at the class.During my semester, not a single question was asked or answered. He doesn't use blackboard and he doesn't respond to e-mails.I wish I could type more.

Hard to understand when he speaks into the board. His notes are all over the place and tests are ridiculous. Even if you write everything down, when you try to make sense of it later, its impossible.

So far, the students that comprise this giant lecture are the ones real students hate: complaining, only wants to memorize, hates learning, partying types. I can see why people fail. Effort at Temple University is a rarity. This guy isn't bad, just write everything down, read, learn. Not difficult. Aren't you paying for this?

Impossible to understand when he speaks, writes sloppy, and all the tests are on are the lectures. I'm a good student, take excellent notes, study hard, and in my opinion I think some of his test questions are very unfair. Just show up to lecture and study hard.

I study, take notes, show up for class, and even bought and study the textbook when so many say its not needed and all I have to show is a C+. Everyone says lab is hard, at least you can study for the lab. Even if you study for the tests, like half of the questions are puzzles rather than questions with even a right answer you don't get full credit

Tests are retarded. He will photocopy pictures and text from the textbook and underline a single word and you are somehow suppose to explain it. He always ask one stupid question that relates nothing to biology that I can never get right because I'm trying to filter our the important blabber. Last test is multiple choice, ha, doesn't make it better

Overall a smart guy, but maybe not cut out for the teaching world. His tests are very abstract, and he often throws on very minute details that don't really have anything to do with what you're learning. Write down everything he says, and study the notes word for word. Also, stay on top of his lab; it's harder than the lecture at times.

Dr. Hanson is the worst professor to take.. You will learn absolutely nothing. Temple's tuition is expensive and it is a shame that your money is wasted from a professor that teaches absolutely nothing. Dr. Hanson do not even face the class. His back is turned the whole time. If you want to learn. DO NOT RISK IT!!!!!! You will regret it!!!

He is completely useless. Rambles on nonsensically and expects you to understand. Go to lecture and take notes, or get someone else's if you can't stand it. I did fine with just studying his notes. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK UNLESS YOU ARE TAKING BIO 2 AS WELL. You won't need it. I took Bio 2 at Ambler and it was worth the commute to get a diff teacher!

He is a very different person.Go to class and study your notes and you will do fine. Tests: copy drawings from board- he uses the book equivalents. He copies sections of the text and underlines words and asks you to explain why- if you go to class you will have no problem with this. Make sure you stay on top of Lab- that's the hard section.

I can not believe he is still teaching! Absolutely the worst test writer ever! His questions are vague and could possibly have more than one answer. His answer sheets have only one answer and the TA grades the test. The TA can only go by the answer sheet even if an answer is still right it is marked wrong, now wonder why each test is curved.

Memorize his 25 pages of notes word for word. His tests are all handwritten and confusing. The questions are very pointed and could imply several different answers. They are often vague and have nothing to do with anything from the book or notes or nothing we have gone over. There are several trick questions that he can only answer.

dr. hanson is awesome, ignore these bad reviews. yes he likes to go on random tangents (often entertaining) and never uses the book... just go to class, sit close enough to where u can read what he writes on the board, and copy it down. this isn't a class that you pass without showing up. if you show up and copy the notes, you'll easily do great

I had his Bio lecture last semester. You will not need the text book at all so do not waste your money. I'm amazed that this guy is still teaching. It is obvious that he is passed that point of caring at all about anything-students, tests, coming to class even.
